Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend

Thanks to everyone who voted in the “which shawl to knit” blogpoll. The winner is . . .

Diamond Fantasy Shawl by a nose!

There were a total of 93 votes, 47 for DFS and 46 for FBS. Jess and I freely admit that we were both routing for Diamond Fantasy. Me because I wanted to knit something more challenging than Flower Basket and also because Flower Basket is so similar to Leaf Lace, which I did last summer. Jess because she was hoping to get a diamond engagement ring over Christmas and didn’t – pout. So, she needs some diamonds in her life and this is our temporary solution. Until Roger gets his act together, that is.

On January 1st I cast on Sivia Harding’s Diamond Fantasy Shawl with the Cherry Tree Hill that I bought last September while visiting Norma in Vermont.

I’ve made it through Chart A and one repeat of Chart B. At the risk of getting dope slapped by the knitting goddess, I will say, so far, so good. The pattern is extremely well written, the charts are easy to follow, and when I’ve made a mistake I’ve been able to find it and fix it with minimal swearing.

Jess and I haven’t set this up as an official knit-a-long but if anyone wants to join us, we’d be happy to have you. Just let us know and, if there’s enough interest, we’ll do a button and a blog page and the whole she-bang.

New year, new project. This feels good.

  1. GORGEOUS! I’ve got yarn to make another one – black STR – but it’d be almost stupid for me to cast on. Okay maybe not. I’d love to put some beads in the middle of the diamonds too. Crap. I’M COMPLETELY BLAMING YOU IF I CAST ON FOR THIS!

  2. Very pretty! I started the DFS a couple of months ago and had to frog it twice due to my own stupidity. The charts and pattern are great, but don’t try knitting it while watching two kids under 3yr old!

  3. I’ll be behind the curve, on the DFS.

I ordered the pattern (and then told DH he bought it for me for XMas, thanks to his PayPal account!) but haven’t gotten it, yet. 🙁

    Yours is looking nice!

I only hope, when I start it, I’ll come out of it with a nice shawl and no more gray hairs than when I started!

  4. Love the colour! I have this pattern, but haven’t tried it yet. I seem to recall the Yarn Harlot doing this one and I think she said, trust Sivia’s pattern!

  5. Seems like quite the pretty shawl and I’ve got some yarn that needs to be used. Do you think the pattern would work well in a fuzzy yarn?

  6. Very lovely! The red in the yarn looks like the red in your re-enactment dress.

Does one have to be a blogger to join in in the unofficial or soon to be official DFS knit-a-long?

  7. Aww shucks, I was hoping for the FBS since it’s going to be my first lace project…but this one looks so very pretty. I love the colors!

  8. Beautiful! Excellent choice…too many FBS out there. Looking forward to tracking your progress! I need to get my butt in gear on Leaf Lace.

  9. Lookin’ good, lookin’ good….
Love that pattern, I have it around here somewhere.

Good luck and I can’t wait to see it all done. The colors are real priddy. 🙂

  10. I bow to your courage in tempting the yarn gods with that statement. I think I will have to join you with the shawl.

  11. Carole it looks great! And for shame…temptation is a terrible thing. Shhh!!! I need to go do a reconnaissance mission with the stash and just maybe…
