The Blog Turns One!

Yesterday was my blog’s birthday and it is now one year old! The first year for any baby can be difficult and growing pains are typical. However, I’m here to tell you that it has been a wonderful year for the blog and I!

When I started blogging, I had been reading other knitting blogs for a few months. I never felt comfortable leaving comments because I didn’t have my own blog so I mostly just lurked. But one Saturday morning in late January I was home alone and I started fooling around on blogger. Next thing I knew, Carole Knits was born. It wasn’t long before I wanted something more uniquely my own than blogger could provide, and that’s when I contacted Missa. She created the “look” for Carole Knits and set me up with knitblog and Movable Type.

I always hoped for regular readers and commenters but really didn’t know how I’d get them. I just figured I’d start leaving comments on blogs with the link to my blog and eventually people started commenting. It took a while but now I have regular readers and commenters and you like me! You really like me! For the bean counters out there, this is my 167th post and the blog has received 1676 comments. Pretty slick, eh?

The thing I didn’t anticipate and could no way have predicted was that I would make real friends through this endeavor. Talk about the icing on the proverbial cake! The sharing of knitting stories lead to the sharing of life stories and that in turn lead to the forming of lasting friendships. It’s really been a gift and I feel incredibly lucky to have made a whole bunch of new friends this past year!

Speaking of new friends, the January gift from my Better Pal arrived.

What a hoot! There was this fantastic kitty wresting card, along with the cutest light up floating ducks, and some chocolate dipped biscuits, and a lunch box full of Boston Baked Beans, and the most gorgeous roving from Lorna’s Laces. I’m counting this as the blog’s birthday present. Thank you, Better Pal! I can’t wait to find out who you really are!

So, without getting any sappier than I already have, thank you all for coming back and reading what I have to say. Thank you for all the comments. Thank you for inspiring me to knit more, knit harder, knit cooler. Thank you for being my friends. Happy Birthday to my blog! Here’s to the year ahead!

Your gifts are awesome. Diggin’ those ducks, kinda makes you wanna take a bath in the dark, don’t they?

  2. Happy Blogiversary! I love your blog and check in daily, though I don’t often post comments. Congrats also on the great gift from your Better Pal. Love everything, especially those ducks!

We are so lucky you decided to start a blog… Here’s to many happy returns of the day.

  3. One of my bosses gave me a whole line of rubber duckies last year because I’m always talking about getting “my ducks in a row,” but now I need some light-up duckies! Those are great.

Happy Blogiversary, Carole. I’m really glad you’re here amongst us.

  4. The roving is gorgeous and lucky you to have a fab BP. It’s been fun for most of us.
A very big Bloggiversary to you! It is a pleasure to call you friend and hopefully this will be the year for face to face meetings!

I just got some Pocky yesterday at the Asian market – too bad they did not have those duckies! 😉

  6. Congrats!! I admire all of you willing to have these blogs. I think that they really help beginners like me see all the cool stuff that can be knit. Especially, since I can’t find anyone around here that can do more than Stockinette stitch!!. Way to go and keep blogging away!

  7. Happy 1 year! You have a great site, and great links too. It really is nice to have an intro like this to fellow knitters! Cool ducks too- you know they have PJ’s out there that would match!

  8. Happy Blogiversary! And yea for your BP!

(and Carole’s BP, if you’re reading this, please drop me a line and let me know where to find those ducks. I Must Have Some. Please. Pretty please)

  9. Happy Blog Birthday! Same day as my daughter’s big day.

And yes, I feel sorry for those little sprouting bulbs in my garden.

  10. Happy Blogiversary! I’ve had a wonderful time reading your blog and hope to be reading it for a lot longer! Love the ducks!

    Cool BP stuff!

  12. Went to a party the other night
All the ladies were treating me right
Moving my feet to the disco beat
How in the world could I keep my seat

All of a sudden I began to change
I was on the dance floor acting strange
Flapping my arms I began to cluck
    Look at me..
    I’m the disco duck

    wocka wocka wocka

The ducks came from World Market. Which tells you that I bought them in the US.

    (dances off into the sunset)
