Project Spectrum, March: The Beginnings

As I’m sure we’re all aware, yesterday was the start of Lolly’s Project Spectrum. When Lolly announced this idea, I decided I would use each month’s color scheme to define my sock knitting for the month. See, um, I sort of have a lot of sock yarn. In a lot of colors. And sometimes I have a really hard time deciding which sock yarn to knit next. So, with Project Spectrum as my guide, I figured I’d able to narrow things down a bit.

Here’s my Ruby Red Socks for the month of March.

Yes, that’s one finished sock because I started these last month. But I will finish them this month and they’ll be finished Red Socks which will cover not only the Red Hot Sizzling Socks knit along but also my PS requirements, too.

Turns out, though, that PS is spilling over into other areas of my life. I’ve been spinning.

That’s the Chocolate Covered Cherries that I bought at SPA from Amy of Spunky Eclectic. Dude, it’s a lot of pink. But there’s enough brown mixed in to make me happy, ya know?

And I started a new shawl.

That’s the wee beginnings of the Seraphim Shawl, beautiful designed by Mim, in Fleece Artist Silk Stream from Redbird Knits. Color: Rosey. It’s silk and wool and I love the way it feels. Kind of nubby and like raw silk but mostly like wool. Good stuff, that. And, she’s having a sale that ends today.

There’s been other red things, too, including a finished Log Cabin quilt. (no, I didn’t take a picture of it last night when Lois and I were working on it. You’ll just have to trust me – it’s really pretty and there’s lots of red!) This will be raffled off at this weekend’s Dale and the Duds dance to benefit Dale’s Boy Scout troop. Anyone going to be in my area and want to have a fun night out with the chance to win a beautiful scrap quilt? Lemme know, cuz I’ve got tickets.

  1. Darn…I won’t be able to make it. It’s so cool to have March as pink/red month. I LOVE pink and red…as if you didn’t know. The spinning is wonderful! Love the mix of colors.

  2. Which night?

Pink is mah signature colah. Well, fuchsia is, anyway, sort of thrust upon me by circumstance and Ruth.

  3. VERY nice socks, and even nicer spinning. Looking forward to see how that looks plyed, and knitted. (Can’t comment on the shawl. I’m not a shawl kinda guy.)

  4. Wow, great stuff Carole! Those are my favorite colors too.
I’m excited to see that shawl working up, and your spinning is most excellent!
    Thanks for the daily drool!

  5. Ooooh pretty. Thanks bunches for the link. I just bought 8 oz of the stuff in two different colorways (Rocky Mountain High & Mandy). I figure I could make socks / hats /mittens or somesuch for my short people. Oh and put me down for another 1pound 9 oz of shetland lamb fiber that I bought yesterday 🙂

  6. SALE! DID YOU MENTION SALE? MUST BUY YARN. LOVE THE SPUNKY E. MINES ALL PLIED AND READY TO KNIT.

  7. That’s pretty great pink……….love the fleece artist fiber….yummy, yummy,yummy……….
Would also love to see a picture of that Log cabin quilt……..

  8. I love everything!! I spun up choc. cherries a while ago and made a great scarf, the brown helps balance out the pink definitely!

  9. I love, love, LOVE the chocolate-covered cherries. Pink and brown is one of my favorite color combinations. 🙂 Can’t wait to see what you’ll do with it…

  10. Oooh… fleece artist. Seems like I fall in love with everything I’ve ever seen from them. That shawl is going to be gorgeous!

  11. I’m doing socks for my Project Spectrum work, too … I have the red and pinks all lined up, waiting for me to finish the purple pair on the needles.

I bought a lot of sock yarn last year … I’m really glad Project Spectrum came along to help me use it.

  12. Ooh, those singles really do look yummy! Chocolate-covered cherries. Neopolitan ice cream . . . you’re making me drool, here!

  13. Okay, great–now I had to go and buy some yarn . . . you know, anti-stashalong or no anti-stashalong, I am trying to keep things under a modicum of control, here! A skein of Jaggerspun wool/silk in fingering weight for socks, 2 rovings of Cormo, 2 of kidsilk . . . oh well, at least I’ll be getting “credit” for them!

  14. That silk stream is BEAUTIFUL and I don’t even like pink most of the time! And thank you for the link 🙂

  15. I just bought some of that same fiber! I love the way it looks spun up! All of your current projects are really nice and perfect for this months PS.

  16. Beautiful yarn and socks. And what a way to multi-task your Alongs! 🙂

If having a certain color each month helps you with the sock yarn/knitting – go for it!

    Enjoy the weekend!

  17. I will be working on socks too – I have several skeins in the sock stash! I love the way yours are working up, Carole!

  18. You temptress, you! I’ve been trying to resist that FA Silk Stream at Redbird Knits but when I read your glowing review (coupled with RK’s final sale day), resistance was futile. *sigh*

That chocolate covered cherries looks beautiful spun up.

  19. Looks like you are doing great things for the first month of Project Spectrum! I love the Red Hot socks!
