Swallowtail Shawl

October 17, 2006 By Carole

Remember the swallowtail shawl and the nupping? It’s been finished for about 2 weeks and I still haven’t showed it to you. I finally gave up trying to arrange a photo shoot with my number one photographer and decided to be photographer myself with Hannah as the model. I’m going to let the pictures speak for themselves on this one. You can make them bigger by clicking.

We had so much fun doing this. The pictures all come out really great – I had a hard time selecting these to show you. And, are you ready for the real shocker? Hannah actually told me that she likes the shawl. Not that I’m giving it to her. This one is mine, all mine.

I really like the color and drape! I’m going to show the photos to my dd who, after I beg and nag, will pose in a sullen teen hunch for a few seconds for one photo. Yours is a gem!

There is still time to make her one for Christmas… just sayin’ She and your shawl both look lovely, and I like this so much better in your color choice (Susan got me sucked into the issues with the border, and I have been busy knitting her shawls since). Nice work!

Your swallowtail shawl is beautiful! I found your blog when I failed at my attempt to make the swallowtail…but it won’t conquer me!
In reading (a little of) your blog we sure have a lot in common! Knitter, librarian, reenactor, etc. It’ll take me a while to catch up since I just happened upon your blog…great pics!
    So nice to meeet you….

Lovely! Lovely! I am making one in red, and I want to add one more stitch to each edge and am wondering whether to have an extra stitch in the middle. Will 437 yards of the Misti Alpaca do it? How much yarn did you use? Thanks!
