Public Service Announcement

The holiday merry making is over and now it’s back to work. Ugh. I do have two things to tell you about that might help you start your new year off right, though. They are fun things that you and I can do together.

First there is NaSpiMoMo. This is the brain child of Margene, although I did make the button and I’m helping her administer the Ravelry group. (Speaking of the button, I used a photo that Maryse took of my wheel as the background. I want to take photos just like Maryse when I grow up.) Anyway, the idea behind NaSpiMoMo is to spin as much as you can in January. That’s it. No rules, no contests, no give aways, just spinning. You can’t go wrong with that! I hope you’ll join us.

Second there is the ABC Along 2008. It’s back and it’s all thanks to Vicki. If you missed this in 2006 now is your chance to join up. To quote directly from the Ravelry group, “Members in this year-long group . . . post a photo to their blog and/or the Flickr group every two weeks to correspond with a letter of the alphabet. Photos can be related to fiber, but do not have to be; they should reflect the personality of the photographer, and something of importance or meaning to them. Post at least one photo in each 2-week period to match the corresponding letter of the alphabet.”

Don’t those two groups sound like fun? And we could all use a little fun to get us through the bleak midwinter!

  1. Mr. E was just asking me if ABC was going to live again. Sounds like fun, but I gave it my all in 2006! What’s left?? Maybe it would be fun to see.

  2. I’m up for both … which means I’m going to have to actually USE my wheel for the first time this month! It will also be interesting to see if I can get past “Q” in the ABC-along this year. 🙂

  3. NaSpiMoMo sounds like fun! I think I’ll give it a shot, especially since my wheel is feeling very neglected since all the Christmas knitting took over.

  4. Yippee skippy! I think I can do both!!! Thanks for the great ideas. And even SAHM have to go back to work today 🙁

  5. Oh, both of those -alongs sound great. I wish I knew how to spin. *sigh* I think I will sign up for the ABC, though. See you over on Ravelry!

  6. I was an ABC dropout in 2006. 🙁
I don’t dare set myself up for failure again. Although I had a lot of fun with the photos I did post.

  7. I might join in on the spinning, though my burst of spinning came in December. Right now I feel more like knitting. I’ll have to think about the ABC-Along. I passed on it last time. Will you be doing it this time?

  8. I don’t spin…but, I sure do love to take photos! Looking forward to the ABC along thing! Thanks for letting me know…

  9. I joined the spinning group and I really loved the ABC along in 2006, but I worry about being able to do that. Although having something guaranteed to post about every two weeks would be good. Oh, ok. I’m doing it too! See how easy I am. You can talk me in to just about anything.

  10. Now I really wish I knew how to spin…

I’ll be enjoying your fun along the way, Carole. I can’t wait to see what you spin next.

  11. Happy New Year! I already signed on for more spinning and have to get the button up on my blog, but I loved the ABC thing so much in 2006 that I guess I better dive in on that one too! Ya’ll have such a way of turning me into a follower, LOL.

  12. Happy New Year, Carole!
Oooh, the ABC-along! I missed that in 2006, but it would be fun to do it this year. I will have to put my thinking cap on…

  13. First of all, you are the sock queen. I want to be you. (2007: 1 pair of socks.)

Second of all, I totally need to finish spinning my “Opus 2007, make that 2008” yarn for my husband’s sweater. I think I’ll take that spinning challenge.

  14. Happy New Year Carole!! *smooch*

I’m going to join you with both of those great group ideas! Yay for a new year. 🙂

    XOXOX

  15. I *am* in Ravelry but haven’t negotiated a truce with Flikr yet — it’s actually harder for me to see than most sites. Go figure…

If the spinning were for March, I could do it, but we’re moving now so maybe next year instead? Sure am glad to see so much spinning. Yay!
