Summer of Socks ’08: Pair #3

Summer of Socks pair #3 is off the needles. The pattern is my usual sock recipe but these socks definitely don’t look like my usual socks.

They pooled and flashed like crazy!

While I was knitting them I kept stopping to look at them, trying to decide if I loved them or hated them.

Turns out – I love them!

The yarn is Knitting Sunshine in the color Beach Day and the color blends look just like a sunset on the beach to me.

I wouldn’t want all my socks to do this but I have to say these were really fun to knit and, just like my other summer-y socks, they will be toasty and warm and a great reminder of summer once the-season-we-shall-not-name arrives.

  1. The image of the sunset saves the socks. Otherwise, I agree, I’m not much on pooling and flashes, either. But they DO look like sunset, reflected on the water. Nice.

  2. You know? In the dead of winter, when the sun’s been gone for days on end? Those socks will lift you mood and have your toes tapping!
    LOVE.THEM!
    (((Hugs)))

  3. Love the blue and orange together. If you hadn’t mentioned the sunset thing, I would have disagreed about the pooling. Funny how a different perspective changes things!

  4. I love bright socks and those are some wild and crazy socks! And you’re right, they do look like a sunset on the water. Enjoy!

  5. Whoa grrl, you are surely cranking out the socks! Normally I HATE pooling, but I kind of like it in these socks

  6. I’m not a fan of poolng either but these have really nice colors!

What’s wrong with fall!? I’m all set to knit up some nice socks in “Harvest Colors”. I have been planning them out for a few weeks now!

  7. I love ’em and understand perfectly how you could hate them at the same time as you love them… they’ll have great shock value this winter… like my collection of garish orange and orange+something wool socks (of which I have more garish orange combination yarns to use this winter to make more). They’ll be great on a cold dark morning.

  8. Wow! These are magic socks. Most other times the pooling and flashing are not so striking and beautiful. Those are fabulous socks.

  9. I’m a girl who loves a good pooling. And that is some great pooling. Perfect socks for the dreary days of February.

  10. Hi Carole, I met you at Maryland Sheep and Wool and you said I should comment and these socks drove me right over the edge! That is the coolest pooling I have ever seen! It reminds me of a globe. Land masses all around!! I love them!

  11. Wild! I’ve never had a pair of socks turn out that way. But if I did, I would want them to look just like these.

  12. Oh my god they’re cute-you should have a couple of bellini’s and then try to identify what the shapes look like. Those are awesome!

  13. Those are practically psychedelic! And I for one like ’em. 🙂

Dani’s yarn also feels really wonderful when knit up, doesn’t it?

  14. I kind of love them. I always love to watch what a yarn will do left to it’s own devices. Kind of a free range yarn so to speak. And I love how, when you hold your feet together? It looks like the flashing is crossing over.

  15. The pooling and flashing is so regular, it almost doesn’t look like pooling and flashing. They are good summer colors, and will help remind you of a good season. (Which I can now say, now that it is almost finishing.)
