Three Seas Cowl

Cowls are all the rage, it seems. I knit this one back in July. I had almost forgotten all about it but when the cold weather rolled around Dale remembered – because he wanted to wear it.

The pattern is the Three Seas Cowl from A Fistful of Stitches. The yarn is my handspun. It’s Icelandic lamb from Frelsi Farm bought at Rhinebeck back in 2007, I think.

It’s pretty soft, being a lamb, and it’s very very warm. Perfect to wear while shoveling snow.

Or just standing around looking handsome.

  1. That’s a great looking cowl, and he does indeed look handsome wearing it. Perhaps that last pic should have been saved for Eye Candy Friday. 😉 Kid, I kid!

  2. He does look handsome in it (the hat adds a rakish touch), and luckily (?) there is plenty of snow that needs shoveling ….

  3. It’s a great way to knit with handspun and it looks so cozy! I knit Smith a cowl this weekend but it’s not as long or big. He’ll think he got shortshrift!

  4. Dashing and Rugged I would say, the cowl looks perfectly suited to him. It’s so warm here almost like summer, I could have actually worn shorts yesterday instead of pedal pushers. (I posted a few more photos from the Huntington Library, such a gorgeous place), oh and I added your blog to my favorite list, hope you don’t mind.

  5. Very handsome indeed! Hubby asked for one after seeing all the Christmas presents I made of them. Of course, he asked if his could be “plain” and “man-ish”!
    I love the cables!!

  6. I like the folks at Frelsi – good people – and now both Dale and Tuck have something from their fiber. Love the cowl. I’ve been trying to think of something to make from some qiviut I’ve got, and I think that might be just the thing.

  7. is it still Eye Candy day? great fotos! makes me want to run out and get the yarn to start one, but there is alpaca in the stash…

  8. Grant looks much handsomer to me when he’s shoveling snow.

Very nice work! Is it reversible? Yeah, yeah, I know, look it up.

  9. I hope cowls are the rage next Christmas – I have started knitting some for gifts already. Thanks for sharing the photos – Dale looks ever so warm & not dealing with the scraf that keeps falling off while shoveleing is a bonus!

  10. Very nice cowl. There are the rage – and have about three different patterns I want to knit…

And, Dale does look very handsome wearing it and the great hat! Love the hat!

  11. Hmmmmm My big kid, I mean husband has been playing hockey on the pond out back and he was asking if I could make some sort of liner to go under his hockey helmet so his ears didn’t freeze…maybe a cowl would serve that purpose too. Seems like it covers Dale’s ears pretty good.

  12. Carole, weirdest thing. I can never see your pictures until a day or so later. I can see the type, but just little question marks where the pictures should be. Has anyone else mentioned this, or is it unique to my Macintosh computer? Love your blog.

  13. Whew! I’ve got to show Chris those pictures. With the cold weather, he’s taken to wearing ski caps, indoors and out. I loved it wen he’d wear his hat. I’d make him a cowl just like Dale’s. Great pics!

  14. Beautiful cowl and photo! I’ve been wondering, what camera do you shoot with? I am in the market for a grown-up camera and am curious about yours!!

  15. Nice photos! A cowl would be perfect for working outside – no ends flying around and coming undone like on a scarf.
