Reports of My Death Have Been Greatly Exaggerated

February 20, 2009 By Carole

Hey Everybody!
I’m sorry I disappeared on you – I wasn’t really trying to fake my own death. That’s just overdone, isn’t it? Plus, I wouldn’t have been any better at it than some others that have tried, since Hillary posted a picture of me yesterday and I am clearly alive and well in that photo.

Anyway, it was really just a series of unfortunate events that wound up making a lot of people very nervous.

Dale and I went on vacation this week so I had 3 posts pre-written to take me through Wednesday. I planned on checking the blog and responding to emails while away but my laptop had issues with Hillary’s wireless and I couldn’t actually do any of that. I then planned on posting Thursday morning (from the airport) telling you where we had been and all that stuff – Wednesday’s photo was a big hint, by the way. However, when I attempted to get into WordPress Thursday morning I was shut out because someone had hacked into my blog with some sort of phishing thing. SiteGround shut me down and it has been a real hassle getting things back up.

JessaLu has been my tech guru once again. I’d still be floundering around in admin files and support tickets if it weren’t for her. That said, we’ve done a work around here that SiteGround may or may not approve of – meaning this may disappear again.

So just know that I’m fine and not a zombie. The blog will be fine eventually and all is well here at Carole Knits. The dog and cat survived our time away and things are returning to normal. Thanks to each of you who emailed me to make sure I was okay! Keep your fingers crossed that things go smoothly from this point forward.

Glad to see you back. I had worried a bit and then got your emails all at the same time and figured everything was fine. Made 14 King Cakes today and am wiped out! Actually made 13 (added brown sugar to the 14th and cut it up into sticky buns for the people helping). My husband and I (and some scout friends) will be cooking for 200 for a Mardi Gras party at church tomorrow. At that point I will need a vacation! Have a great weekend.

Since I’ve been a bad bad blog reader, I was clueless! Until this morning, when several other sites I’d read first talked about it… How does a blog get hacked? I thought computers are supposed to make our lives easier, and I do enjoy this social networking, but honestly, sometimes they just take too much of our time!

  24. Hillary says

My blog was hacked, too! But my host got it back up less than two hours after I emailed him. Now that’s great service.

See, if you only posted sporadically (like me!) no one would be in a panic. Glad to see the blog back up and running.

Whew! Glad you’re back (more or less, or sorta!) and hope the blog stays put. Margene was good enough to pass on that you’d had blog trouble, so I didn’t worry…
I don’t get these folks who hack into blogs, and I’d have NO idea how to get things back on track.

    (((hugs)))
