Bathroom Remodel

We started redoing our bathroom back in October.  Nothing too major – a new toilet, new sink/vanity, new storage cabinet and lights, and some paint.  I kind of wanted to do a new floor but remember that nasty dentist bill I had?  That was the same day I was supposed to go pick out flooring.  So there was no floor because it wound up in my mouth.  It’s okay, though, because I’m really happy with everything else and I don’t even notice the floor now.

I took before pictures and everything and then I forgot to blog about this.  Whoops.  Luckily, Stephanie and I had a conversation last week that reminded me that I forgot.  And I couldn’t have remembered at a better time since I really had nothing else to talk about today.  Okay, enough words, how about some pictures?

This is before:

sink-old

Our old sink was a corner style one with an oak base. Boring and awkward.

The walls were off-white.  Blah.  And we actually had a phone in there from back in the day.  When I say “we” I mean Dale because that was one of his decisions BC.  That’s Before Carole, in case you didn’t know.

I had stenciled this room when I first moved in over 12 years ago.  I guess stenciling was still popular then.  Now it makes me cringe.  And you can see the color samples on the wall here.

This is after:

medicine-cabinet

Our new sink is white with a white bead board vanity and medicine cabinet.  The new light is so bright!  I can really see when I pluck my eyebrows these days.  Ahem.

towel-cabinet

This storage cabinet matches the other pieces.  And I love the new white curtain at the window.  We painted all the woodwork white, too.  So bright and cheerful!

The shower curtain isn’t new  -it’s actually where my color inspiration came from.  It reminds me of a mitered afghan, frankly, and all the colors are beautiful.  Orange and gold and green and even some blues and purples.

So that’s our new bathroom.  Yes, it’s orange.  Very very orange.  And we love it!  It’s COLOR and that’s what I want in my home these days.  No more neutrals!  No more boring!

Bring on the COLOR.

  1. It turned out lovely! I love the old bead board hanging thing that was in the old version. I hope you used it somewhere in the house. The boat picture is perfect. It picks up the color perfectly. Happy Wednesday!

  2. Great remodel. I can see the argument for orange there. It’s a happy color.

Floor mouth is better than potty mouth.

  3. Since I’ve seen it in person I can say that it is very pretty, very colorful and well appointed. You created a beautiful space!

  4. Wow, it looks great, Carole! So fresh and bright! I love that shower curtain, too – it’s exactly what I envision when I think of a new comforter for our bed, but I can never find anything like it!

  5. Wow, I love it! You did a great job on fixing up your bathroom. I immediately thought of a mitered afghan when I saw the shower curtain, too. I even looked twice to make sure you hadn’t knit it. 🙂

  6. I LOVE the red. My kitchen is red, fire engine red with white cabinets and floor. There are some green tiles in the flooring. Not being fond of white, hubby and I painted it over ten years ago but now it really needs some updating. Really nice re-do on your bathroom. We all need color, especially in winter.

  7. Oh my — What a incredible transformation! I LOVE it!

I am a big fan of color. The only room in our house that is something approximating a neutral is our bathroom, and it’s sort of a medium taupe. 🙂

  8. Pregnancy nesting overload! I am so inspired!

The shower curtain is amazing and I can see how it easily inspired the rest of the room. It all looks great!

  9. Our hallway is the same orange. I love how it changes color when the sunlight hits it. Beautiful shower curtain.

  10. Wow! I really love it. I am as much in love with color. I’m in an apartment now, but when I buy my first home, I can’t wait to paint and decorate. It’s going to be just as colorful! Gorgeous!

  11. It’s great! Love that orange. I have a bright aqua blue in my bathroom, that I worried about every moment until the room was all done and put back together. Now I can’t imagine a blah neutral color in there! It wakes me up!

The combo of orange and white is so cheery and opens the room up so much. Amazing what a difference color makes.

  12. It’s absolutely beautiful! I have no imagination when it comes to decorating, but I sure do love your Longaberger baskets! LOL

  13. Well, that transformation pushed me over the edge….my all-white bathroom HAS to go! (I have drop-dead gorgeous bird wallpaper for above the wainscot, but was going to repaint everything else white again. DULL!) I’m definitely going to use more color after seeing this…great job!

  14. Oh – this is so inspirational, Carole! I have been struggling with color in our house – what is already there is okay, but I feel the need to put my own stamp on the house, you know?

I love the choices you made for this bathroom. We have a VERY small 2nd bathroom that has a sink that is way too big for the space, and I would really love to replace it with a pedestal.

You guys did a lovely job with your remodel.

  15. It looks wonderful! The wall color is awesome. I don’t think I have ever seen a corner bathroom vanity before. I need to get motivated again to get going on my bathroom remodel.

  16. Wow…that is bright! What a cheery way to start your day! (I have to admit…I still like stenciled walls)

  17. It’s glorious! It must be so mice to personalize your space like that…I can’t wait to escape apartment living. 🙂

  18. I love it! I did exactly the same thing six years ago, when we started to redo our bathroom (and we went to the studs) I found a shower curtain that I loved and then picked the yellos walls from it. The color is bright, but that is exactly what I wanted in the mornings, a bright sunny bathroom! Just like your orange must do for you, it makes my day start off in a bright and cheery way, no matter what else is going on or what the weather is.

  19. What a cheery room. Great place to begin the day, pluck chin, err…I mean eyebrows and such.

  20. It looks great and I love the orange color. It gives me some ideas for our bathroom too.
A great way to start the day.

  21. I thought the same thing when I saw the shower curtain. It certainly is inspirational. It seems to me the remodels are even more enjoyable after the trauma of undertaking the task wears off a bit.

  22. OMG Carole I just LOVE it!!!! I really like orange anyhow, and I’ve wanted for years to do a tangerine/orange wall or room. I wanted to do our hallway (dark, center of the house, small steep stairs…) a tranparent/waxed fuschia, and then hang the skull (animal skulls) collection on the walls… but Don said no. So it’s bright yellow instead, with old pictures, mirrors, and a couple of small paintings by people I know and love. I did manage to finally win him over on painting the floor red in the family room… and he likes it. One of these days though, I’m going to do something in fuschia or orange!

  23. So, so, so much better! The stenciling needed refreshing for sure, I’m glad to see that it’s been replaced by that gorgeous orange!
