I forget if it was a camera cable, but it was some usb thing… and the first time it went into one of the usb slots, and then forever after it wanted to go in that slot, and wouldn’t work in the other one…

I’ve used a card reader since the USB on my first camera died several years ago…I love mine.

Oh, those UU churches in the NE – such gorgeous architecture!

I had the same thing happen slowly with all 3 of my computers (and the same cord). Once it stopped working with the last computer I went and bought a card reader which works just fine. Bonus – I can read the other cards from my parents’ camera now that I have this card reader.

I hate when technology isn’t doing what it’s supposed to do. We’ve got our fax machine on the fritz… rings, won’t answer. Grrrr.

I would start with Elizabeth’s recommendation of uninstalling and re-installing the drivers. I’d also check the camera manufacturer’s website to see if you need to update anything. That said, I love my little card reader. DD says they have the multiplex card reader at school, the kind that will read micro cards, CF, and the bigger ones used in our SLR’s. newegg.com tends to have interesting reviews — I’ve learned a lot about why a person would want to buy one product instead of another.

I’m with Norma (in the knowing “nuthin’ about nuthin’ ” technology department)- perhaps it is (as an astrologer friend of mine would say) the fault of “Mercury Retrograde” ???
My typical response when something like this happens is to gently back away from the computer, all the while whispering ‘I’m leaving now”, and then to hope when I return that it has magically fixed itself! (heh heh)
