Another folige picture from King Richard’s Faire. They don’t look like this any more, though. It’s amazing how the trees have lost their leaves in the last week.
We get an extra hour this weekend. What are you going to do with yours?

Hannah and I have been doing the college visit thing lately. So far we’ve found one school we both really like and one school we both really hate. I’m not naming names but I will say that the one we hated was close to historic Salem and once we left the school we decided to salvage the day by visiting The House of Seven Gables.
The grounds are beautiful and it was a very interesting tour. We had to go up a hidden staircase behind a fireplace, and we stood on one of the oldest wooden floors in America. Just being in a dwelling that old is really awesome, I think, but getting to enjoy it with my girl makes it even better.
I figure these sorts of days are dwindling for us and I want to make the most of them. So, to top it all off we had lunch at Sonic. It’s the first one in our area and I have to say, while certainly not healthy, it definitely was delicious.
Especially the chocolate malt.
Dale and I had a marvelous time at King Richard’s Faire last Sunday. The day was sunny and the air was crisp, a perfect day to dress in renaissance garb and check out the faire. We wandered around and drank beer, admiring all the things to see and do.
There were guys who carried their beers on their heads.
And there were singers and dancers.
There were freaks on dragons.
And artisans, like glass blowers.
There was a king, of course.
There were scary creatures with fur and fangs.
And there were picturesque little cottages.
Best of all, though, was this one sexy wizard. I brought him home with me. I just couldn’t help myself.
You’ll have to wait another day to see my pictures from King Richard’s Faire because today is Tuesday and the topic is a positive one. 10 Favorite Movie Moments.
1. When Harry Met Sally. No, not the scene when she fakes the orgam. That one is good but I love the scene when she orders the pie. On the side is a very big thing with Sally.
2. Fargo. I love all the scenes with Marge but especially the one where she encourages her husband about winning the 2¢ duck stamp. “People always buy the little stamps when they raise the price, doncha know.”
3. Gone With The Wind. Again, there are many moments I love in this movie but I guess my favorite would have to be when Scarlet is eating barbecue surrounded by all her beaus.
4. Steel Magnolias. My absolute favorite moment in this movie is near the end when Sally Field is at the cemetary and so upset about her daughter dying. And she is going on and on about wanting to hit something because she is so angry. Olympia Dukakis pushes Shirley MacLean right in front of Sally Field and cries, “Here! Hit this!” It’s such a great way to break the tension and everyone starts laughing.
5. Shrek. Ogres are like onions.
6. Casablanca. The scene at Rick’s when the French outsing the Germans. Of course, there’s also a great scene in When Harry Met Sally when they discuss Casablanca and Sally is saying that Ilsa made the right choice when she stuck by Laszlo because she got to be the “first lady of Czechoslovakia.” It’s a riot.
7. An Officer And A Gentleman. I wouldn’t be a romantic if I didn’t love the ending when Richard Gere comes in and carries Debra Winger out of the factory. I can’t watch it without blubbering.
8. Monty Python and the Holy Grail. This has to be one of the most quotable movies ever. “Help! Help! I’m being repressed!” And of course, “How do you know he’s a king? Because he hasn’t got shit all over him.”
9. Rebecca. The part where Mrs. Danvers is encouraging poor Joan Fontaine (who never has a first name – you know that, right?) to jump out the window. That scene chills me to the bone.
10. The Princess Bride. You’re in the pit of despair! Cracks me up every time.
Now this is my kind of list. Fast and fun!
Hi Hi Hi! It is really Monday already? Wow, this weekend flew by. Here’s a quick recap:
On Friday I met Kathy and Sharon for coffee – that turned into lunch. And then on Friday afternoon I took Hannah to see the oral surgeon. All 4 of her wisdom teeth are coming out this Wednesday. My poor baby. Friday night we watched Halloween in honor of the upcoming holiday.
On Saturday I hung around the house and did some knitting. Then I went for a mani/pedi. When I got home Dale and I decided to go out for drinks and appetizers. We had a very pleasant early evening and came home to watch Nightmare on Elm Street, again in honor of the upcoming holiday.
On Sunday we decided to head to King Richard’s Faire, our local renaissance faire. It was a spur of the moment decision and I took a ton of pictures but they all need processing and by the time we got home last night I was too full of beer to do anything except sit on the couch and eat pizza.
Yes, I finally had pizza.
Our leaves are at their peak right about now. Everywhere I look there is red and orange and gold. It’s gorgeous and I love it.
Have a wonderful weekend!
I have my first pair of finished Socktoberfest Socks right here.
There’s nothing like a good ole pair of stockinettte socks in Trekking.
I mismatched the stripes on purpose. Just because I wanted to be contrary.
The colors remind me of Halloween but I’ll wear them all winter long. And Trekking wears like iron, my friends.
I’m still working on my Mystery Socks and Dragonfly Socks and I’ve started a new pair of plain socks. Think I can finish them all by the time Socktoberfest ends? I do.
It’s a Random Wednesday and it’s all about the rest of Rhinebeck.
That is all.
Thanks for being patient with my mini-post yesterday. I was just too tired to come up with much more. But now that I’m home and rested (and well fed) I can fill you in on our adventures.
I know Norma said she thought the fair was less crowded than usual but honestly, I thought it was more crowded than ever. I don’t know if it’s the Ravelry effect or if it was because Saturday’s weather was better but either way on Saturday – UGH. People everywhere. And while I like people in the individual sense (as in, my own peeps) people in the collective sense – not so much.
We made the most of it, though, and decided to approach everything with a sense of bewilderment and amusement. I took pictures to make my point.
This is JessaLu’s face when observing some of the outfits. I know it was cold and I know we needed warmth but honestly, it’s not necessary to wear everything you’ve ever knit all at once.
And this is Sharon’s face when someone hit the back of her legs with a stroller. For the umpteenth time.
Manise made this face when she saw the line for the bathroom.
And Kathy looked like this when she saw the line for the artichokes. I heard tell people waited 90 minutes for one of those little bowls of artichokes. We skipped them on Saturday but did manage to get some on Sunday when the line was only 25 minutes long. God bless the rain is all I can say about that.
I hope our silly faces made you laugh because that is definitely the intent. We had a wonderful time hanging out and shopping. Even with all the crowds I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
Rhinebeck was fun and awesome and crowded. I have a few funny photos to show you and I’ll try to get my official Rhinebeck post up later today but I’m not making any promises. You see, I’m tired. It took almost 5 hours to get home and it should have taken 3. And it snowed and there was traffic and there wasn’t even any pizza for me when I got home. Let’s just say it made for a very long end to what was otherwise a most perfect weekend.
Hopefully this photo will tide you over for now.
Later!
