Ten on Tuesday

Dixie resized for blog

Dixie doesn’t get nearly the coverage she deserves here on the blog.

I love movies so I’m quite happy about this week’s Ten on Tuesday topic, 10 Best Movies You’ve Seen Lately. I’m going to switch it up a little, though. I’ll list a few good movies I’ve seen lately but then I’m going to list movies that I want to go see – I know there are a bunch of those. Here we go:

1. The Blind Side. This is the most recent movie I have seen at the theater and I thought it was terrific. Heart warming and inspiring.

2. The Hangover. Okay, it’s not a great film or anything, but it’s set in Vegas and I loved seeing the strip all over again.

3. New In Town. This is a silly little film but the caricature of small town people live in the midwest is priceless.

4. Defiance. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I like a movie that fills me with righteous indignation.

5. Sherlock Holmes. I might be the only person left who hasn’t seen this one yet.

6. The Lovely Bones. The book was wonderful, although difficult to read. I’m interested to see how it translates to the screen.

7. It’s Complicated. I love anything with Meryl Streep.

8. Young Victoria. I always enjoy period pieces about English monarchs.

9. Nine. All those famous actresses AND Daniel Day Lewis? Bring it on!

10. Precious. Sure, it will be depressing but I’m hoping it will also be inspiring and heart warming, too.

It’s almost Oscar time and I can’t wait!

  1. My older daughter and I just went to Sherlock this weekend. Serious fun was had! Now I’ve got to see Blindside. Oh, and Avatar. I think I’m the only person who has yet to see that one.

  2. I have to admit I loved Hangover – Avatar was amazing in IMAX 3D. I hope to see It’s Complicated this weekend.

  3. I’ve been on a bit of a movie roll lately – Loved the Blindside! Didn’t you want to be friends with her? It’s Complicated was great as well. The Hangover – booo! Though Las Vegas sounds pretty good right now! Enjoy the day Carole!

  4. I have yet to see any of the films in your list … but w/ 2 little girls at home, I have a built-in excuse! Would love to see most of them as well … especially The Blind Side, The Lovely Bones (want to read the book first), and Sherlock Holmes!

  5. You’re not the last! I haven’t seen Sherlock yet but am planning to remedy that very soon. I hear It’s Complicated is excellent and plan to see that one as well. Avatar in 3-D was amazing!

  6. I read Precious and the Lovely Bones. I think it would be really hard to see either as a movie but I’d love to hear what you think. Sherlock Holmes looks great as does The Blind Side!

  7. We hardly ever go to the movies. I wantr to see The Blind Side, Sherlock and It’s Complicated. My mom saw that one last night and I need to check in with her for a review.

  8. hmmm – Avatar isn’t on your list.. interesting.
I saw Sherlock. loved it (but then I think that Robert Downey Jr. is fairly fabulous!). And be sure to let us know what you think of it’s complicated. I’m a Streep fan too.

  9. Yea for Dixie!!! 🙂 She’s beautiful.

I haven’t seen Sherlock Holmes yet either. The preview for The Lovely Bones was way too creepy for me!

  10. no, you’re not the only one who has not seen Sherlock Holmes! I don’t think I’ve been to the movies in four years…But, I want to see NINE! So I may be going!

  11. I can’t remember the last movie I saw in a theater. Spiderman II, I think. For some odd reason I’m not as into movies as I used to be, and when I do watch one I like to be able to stretch out and get comfy and pause it so I can go get some ice cream. I like your list, though: now I know what to rent next summer.

  12. I really liked An Education. The script is by Nick Hornby. Peter Saarsgard is creepy, but amazing. Wonderful coming of age film with a twist. Cameo performance by Emma Thompson. We like indie films at our house.

  13. Loved the Hangover – I thought it was very clever…And I usually like the dark, depressing movies so this was a real departure for me.
