Sick, Now With Knitting

Happy Knitting resized for blog

As you can surmise from the title, I am still feeling poorly, but at least I am feeling strong enough to knit. Hooray! Last week the Mondo Cable Pulli was boring. This week it is the perfect project for a convalescent knitter. Lots and lots of stockinette in the round is about the only thing I can handle at this point and this sweater will see the benefit of that.

I’m feeling a bit of cabin fever at this point. I suppose that’s a good thing and maybe I’ll be ready to get out of the house in a day or so.

I’ll keep you posted.

Still Sick

Pink 'n White Tulip resized for blog

I am still sick although I’m feeling a bit stronger today. I’m actually on the couch and after 2 days of staying in bed this is a huge improvement – for my psyche, at least. I haven’t knit a stitch since Sunday but I’m hopeful that today I’ll have the energy to at least hold the knitting in my lap!

Thanks for all your thoughtful get well wishes yesterday. I’m sorry I didn’t respond to each one individually, as I usually do, but I know you all understand.

Sick

Daisy, Daisy resized for blog

I am sick and it hurts all over. I’ll post again when I’m better. In the meantime, here are some daisies for you. They are cheering me up, that’s for sure.

Anything Goes

My weekend was pretty well taken up with the high school drama club performance of Anything Goes. Hannah had one of the lead female roles and Dale and I were in full parental participation mode for the weekend.

There were cookies to bake for the refreshment sale.

And there was hair to curl. 3 shows, 1 hour curling time for  each show equals a lot of time with the curling iron. And a lot of Aqua Net.

There was a bit of knitting at the start of each show but not at the show on Sunday.

At that show I took 650 pictures. That is a LOT of pictures, my friends. The post processing will take a while but here’s one of Hannah that I just love.

I don’t have to tell you that there were tears at the last performance, right? I ought to be a real mess at graduation.

Eye Candy Friday

Yummy Sock Yarn resized for blog

Remember that yarn crawl from a couple of weeks ago? Turns out I won the door prize at The Wool Basket that day. It’s a fabulous skein of Schaefer Nichole. Yummy.

Have a yummy weekend.

Thoughts On Spinning

Pencil Roving Bobbins resized for blog

Susan wrote the other day that sometimes she spins a lot and sometimes she knits a lot. While I always knit a lot, it is definitely true that my passion for spinning comes and goes.

This last week has been a week of spinning and it feels good. It feels good to burn through the stash, it feels good to have wool slipping between my fingers, it feels good to sit and treadle and make yarn.

What’s making you feel good this week?

End of May Mittens

Oooh look! More knitting! More mittens!

end of may mittens pair

I finished the End of May Mittens on Monday – just after the January NaKniMitMo deadline.

end of may mittens thumb

The yarn is the Berrocco Ultra Alpaca that I bought at the Wool Basket in Duxbury. I love the raspberry and brownish gray combination.

end of may cuffs

The lining is a bit of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino.  The alpaca and cashmerino together make for incredibly soft mittens.

And that is a very very good thing. Especially given a certain ground hog’s prediction this week.

Ten On Tuesday

Civil War Sword for blog

Guess who wore his Civil War uniform for a meeting the other day? I couldn’t resist hauling out the camera for a photo or two.

The off-topic topic this week is 10 Household Tasks You’ve Been Avoiding. I have an ulterior motive for this one – I’m going to use this as my “to do” list for the next few weeks. I’m hoping that putting these things out in the blogging universe will keep me focused. Here we go:

  1. Clean up the bedroom closet. The new shelves we installed last year are working great but things have gotten messy in there and I need to go in and straighten up and reorganize a bit.
  2. Paint an accent wall in the kitchen. We’ve got white walls and I love them but there’s one wall that I’d like to paint a sunny yellow. It won’t take much time so I just need to DO IT.
  3. Organize the pantry cupboard in the mudroom. I tend to buy stuff and stick it in there and then I forget about it. A little inventory is in order.
  4. Take photos of yarn. Okay, technically this isn’t a household task but it sort of is because I don’t put new yarn away until I’ve photographed it and entered it into Ravelry. Right now all the yarn I’ve bought recently is in a basket on the floor in our home office. Time to photograph it and put it on the yarn shelves.
  5. Straighten up the craft room. Christmas wrapping paper is still out, empty boxes are on the floor, yarn is spilling out of baskets. It’s a mess in there and it’s time to do something about it.
  6. Pick out a window treatment for the dining room. Right now I’ve got a plain sheer up there because I just can’t decide what I want. Time to make a decision already.
  7. Clear out the clutter in the mudroom. It needs to get warmer before I can tackle this one, though!
  8. Wash the windows. I’m hoping I can bribe Hannah to do this one.
  9. Get a center piece for the dining room table. See #6.
  10. Go through the coat rack and donate the ones we don’t wear anymore. I meant to do this before Christmas and it completely slipped my mind. It’s still cold here, though, and I know the shelters are full of people so I’m hoping my coats can still make a difference.

And there you have it. Just writing this stuff down has helped me feel more organized!

Ancient Threads Socks

I finished the first pair of socks of 2010 a week or so ago and I’ve been wanting to photograph them for you ever since. The problem has been coordinating weather and lighting conditions. It’s been warm but raining or cool but dark or too damn cold to sit outside long enough for a photo shoot. Yesterday I gave in and photographed them on the kitchen table.

ancient thread legs

I know it’s not as satisfying as seeing the socks on my feet but they still look pretty good.

ancient thread toes

The yarn is Ancient Threads Tri sock yarn that I bought at Massachusetts Sheep and Wool a couple of years back. I’m pretty sure JessaLu bought a skein of the same color combo.

ancient thread heel stitches

The colors are so pretty and there was absolutely no pooling at all.

ancient thead picot close up

The pattern is here is, of course, Carole’s Picot Edge Sock.  You can get it on Ravelry, too. The macro lens is really great for capturing that picot edge.

ancient thread folded socks

I do love some good sock porn.
