Wednesdays Are For Knitting

July 18, 2012 By Carole

My knitting seems to have slowed to a crawl this summer. I don’t know if it’s all the working out or all the company and socializing or just the heat but I sure don’t seem to be picking up my needles as much as I have in previous summers.

Nevertheless, I am still on track for 12 pairs of socks in 2012 since this is pair #7 on the needles and I’m almost done with the first sock of the pair. Maybe I just need to push myself a little – it’s not like I don’t still love to knit, it’s just that . . . I’m not doing it.

What’s on your needles these days?

Test knitting (3items), a baby hat and my Swirl sweater. Can’t tell you when I last knit a pair of socks.

Socks. It’s 6:15 AM here, and it’s already 74 degrees with 85% humidity—I’m only working on small things and staying in the A/C with a fan blowing on me. This is just crazy—it’s supposed to get up to 100 degrees and thunderstorm this afternoon. Can you say S-A-U-N-A? I need to go to the store for a few things, so I’m getting ready to go to the 24 hour WalMart now, before it gets too ghastly out there.

I’ve got plenty of things on the needles….2 baby blankets, a pair of socks and a lined stranded hat but I’m not knitting at all. It has me totally befuddled. I’ve always knit year round before! I don’t know why I’m not this year…

My knitting has slowed WAY down too. I think it’s the working out — there are only so many activites that one can focus on! That said, I just finished a scarf and cast-on another one (The Corrugator). I have my Francis Revisited Sweater done except for the cowl (ha ha ha) — I want it done to wear this Fall.

I haven’t knit in at least a month! I usually slow way down on knitting in the summer. I’ll pick it back up when the weather gets cool.

Socks, another Linen Stitch Scarf from left over sock yarn and I just started a sweater! I tend to hibernate in the afternoons durning the summer here in NC ~ like I would do during a snow storm or when it was too cold to spend time outside when we
    lived in NE!!

It seems to me you’ve been busy with many other events and people this summer. Don’t be hard on yourself, you do more in a day than most people do in a month!! Enjoy the summer…it’s so finite. xox

My knitting has slowed way down as well. But…I recently finished a Brooklyn Tweed PEI, I’ve got socks going and a sweater crawling along too. I think I average a row a day! 🙂

I haven’t picked up my knitting in what seems like forever. Perhaps I will remedy that tonight!

My ambitious goal (thanks to your inspiration) of twelve pairs of socks this year is on track; pairs eight and nine are on the needles and I am at the gusset part on both pair! Socks are a great summer knit — light and portable. Relax and enjoy your summer!

I’m knitting Eustacia using Shibui Baby Alpaca in Fjord. Easy, almost boring, but I know I’ll love the finished product. Finally finished my man socks – he loves them.

Yeah, working out, family, friends, they all get in the way of knitting, but it’s all about balance, right? Your socks are fantastic. What a cacophony of colors! 🙂

Not much knitting going on here either. I have been working on a couple of prayer shawls on and off…mostly off. I guess I’m just not in a knitting mood these days.

Wingspan–I’m addicted! That said, this has been a tough summer because of all the fires. Our neighborhood would get very smoky and that triggered a severe bout with asthma. (Thankfully, fires are out for now.). I tried to start a more challenging project…at least 10 times. My sister told me I have prednisone brain, so I decided to go with the flow. Smile! Lots of good advice from commenters today–be good to yourself!

Well, I pick up my current sock, but the yarn sticks to my finger. Can’t even think about finishing the heavy baby blanket until the humidity goes down. Still the weather is so beautifully summery.

I’m on the last rows of the third shawl I will finish – in two weeks. Trying to get my knitting baggage emptied! Then, I can knit the Advent Mittens (1-25) from Bernant for Olympics knitting without guilt.

    Love your knitting glasses!

I haven’t been knitting as much either, and I have a deadline! I am knitting a lace shrug out of cobweb weight for my son’s fiance to wear with her wedding gown. I really need to get cracking so that it is done with plenty of time to spare as both she and I do not want to be under the gun on this one. I think my knitting slowed down when we were without power for 5 days after the big storm and it was 100 degrees each day. I really need to get back to it.

Knitting is not very productive for me either. Doing good on the spinning but only because I have a goal. It’s also been so darn hot. Not very conducive to wanting to handle wool!

Socks, a baby sweater, and an afghan. But it’s been so hot lately I haven’t even LOOKED at my needles.

I just finished (like less than 2 hours ago) a simple shawl for a show and I have a sweater on the needles. I use my yarn shop’s summer events to help encourage me to not stop knitting. Last year I got a shawl, a pair of mittens and a sweater out of it and this year looks to be 2 shawls (not including the one I finished) and a sweater.

I just started a pullover cowl neck sweater. I’m taking a class on top-down sweaters, mostly so I will commit to getting it done in time for fall!

    I really love that photo!

12 pairs of socks is a feat – kudos to you! …I’m still knitting sweaters and lace. and like you, it feels like my knitting has definitely slowed down a bit.

I actually started learning about making sourdough bread a week before the stay at home orders thanks to @sprboston as he shared his starter and recipe and technique with me. Since then I have kept Mama Cass fed and alive and have baked many loaves of bread. This one might be my best one yet. I did the final proof in the fridge for 24 hours and baked it from its cold state.
