Eye Candy Friday

While I know that Brussels sprouts are loathed by many, they are a favorite of mine and Dale’s. We have philosophical differences, though, about how they should be prepared. I like them tossed with a little olive oil, salt and pepper and then roasted so they get brown and crispy. Dale likes them steamed until they are tender. Since I’m the one doing the cooking you can guess how we usually have them. Ahem.

Eat your veggies this weekend!

I like to cut them in half, put them in a Large frying pan (with a lid) salt, pepper and a touch of oil or butter. Steam for a bit on medium/medium low, then CRANK THE HEAT!!! It’s sort of the best of both worlds. The steaming really keeps the texture I like and the last minute high heat adds the darkened bits and flavor

I likes ‘em YOUR way! Hates ‘em Dale’s way. (Those are lovely specimens, by the way.)

I *love* brussels sprouts! They’re delicious either way you’ve mentioned, and I also like to grill them in the summertime – cut them in half, put in a pan with some olive oil, salt, pepper, and chopped garlic, then place on the grille & let ‘em rip. Mmmmm, can’t wait for summer!

I prefer them roasted, too. You might be able to sway Dale to your thinking if you drizzle a little balsamic vinegar on them just as they come out.

LOVE Brussels sprouts! Our favorite is with onions, bacon, and balsamic vinegar. I’ll eat them no matter how they’re fixed.

I love them no matter how they are cooked! I recently had them sauteed with bacon and cranberry.

My Jim and I also love brussel sprouts. I like them both ways you mentioned and sometimes use the recipe I’ll send you for a little special treat. Have a great weekend!

Yours are too pretty to eat Carole. Such a lovely photograph. You have a good eye. And I like them roasted too, but if I had a husband who would eat them steamed, I might concede once in a while.

I’m with you! Love those brussel sprouts roasted,
steamed with lemon, capers, garlic and red pepper flakes is pretty good too! My husband doesn’t like them any way you cook them.

We like ‘em too, both ways. First had ‘em roasted, with a maple vinegrette (I can’t spell that word) and bacon at thanksgiving… oh my nom.

I have made them your way and like them. Add a little minced garlic to the mix and they are perfect!

Roasted or pan fried, with pancetta & parmesean…

I’m with you, Carole. I like them roasted with olive oil, salt and pepper. Which reminds me, I should get some at the store.

Roasting is my (and my husband’s) favorite method, though steamed in cream is a close second. ;) For health reasons, the cream is a rare treat.

Funny, I hated most veggies as a kid, but these are sooooooo good that I am literally shocked when my kid doesn’t want to gobble the whole pan. (He will eat one or two and then he is done. He is 4, so I have hopes that he will develop “real” taste buds one day.)

I really like the light in that photo!

I’ve only had Brussels sprouts once or twice. I bought some about a month ago then forgot them in the fridge! Just realized that. Oops!
