Right Now

Here’s what happening in my life right now.

drum in the tipi for carole knits

  • Reading. . . Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. I am enjoying it immensely.
  • Planning . . . Thanksgiving dinner. I ordered a fresh, local turkey on Monday. Sure, it’s more expensive but I’m supporting a local business and I’m serving my guests a turkey that’s free from hormones and preservatives. I think that’s worth every penny.
  • Celebrating . . . a new (and free!) iPhone. I dropped mine the other day and despite the case it broke. I was able to get an appointment at the genius bar at our local Apple store that same night and they confirmed that my phone was a goner. And then they gave me a new phone for free. This is why I love Apple products. And geeks.
  • Missing . . . my mom. Holidays are rough even after 15 years. Also, I think that knowing I’m going to be hosting Thanksgiving has added to this because I so loved my mom’s Thanksgiving dinners. I only got to have her come to my house for Thanksgiving once, in 1997, and it was wonderful and I wish I could do it again. Ya know?
  • Knitting . . . dishcloths. Lots and lots of dishcloths. They are mindless and useful and it will be so nice to have fresh ones for the upcoming holidays.
  • Enjoying . . . seeing turkeys on the bogs almost every morning. They make me smile.
  • Trusting . . . my trainer. She said to add strength training back into my work out routine and I’d see the scale (finally) start to move down again. She’s right. How ’bout that
  • Hanging out . . . in the tipi. We haven’t quite got the hang of a smoke free experience but it’s still very cool.

And that’s all I’ve got for you today!

  1. Enjoy the hosting-Thanksgiving experience, Carole — and know that your mom is there with you, in spirit and in memory. (And I love Kate Atkinson novels! All of them!)

  2. Love your list. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving and yes,
we listen to Christmas music starting now!! I love your idea
of using hand knit dishcloths!! I didn’t know anyone really
used them that much! Do you give them as gifts? Post a picture of them some time. So happy you are having a fresh turkey!

  3. After all the entertaining you’ve done this year T-day is going to be a breeze! Kym’s right about your mom always being there with you. They are always with us. Weight training has done more for me than anything else I’ve ever done. The payoff is many fold! Kate’s novel is one of her most interesting.

  4. You are going to be a wonderful hostess and will be making new memories for your kids! Your trainer is right and the gym is where I am heading back to as well. 🙂

  5. Thanksgiving will be great, and as all your friends have said, your Mom will be there in spirit. I go kicking and screaming into the Christmas music, but you’ve got me thinking long and hard about the trainer today. This arm could use some work. Have a wonderful day!

  6. I’ve been sneaking around to listen to Christmas music and watch Christmas movies for a couple weeks now. Shhh…don’t tell my family! 😉
Your mom is in your heart, so she is always with you.

  7. I’m listening to Christmas music right along with you…I love it! Your Mom will be right with you as you celebrate Thanksgiving.

  8. Sweet post. I love hearing about your surroundings–they are so different from ours. And, I agree 100% about the turkey–no Butterballs, please!

  9. Free iPhone? Good for you! I love mindless knitting like that. It’s very comforting. I haven’t turned on the Christmas music on Sirius yet. There seems to be a lot of channels to choose from this season. I’ll make the plunge next week for sure.
