Wednesdays Are For Knitting: Mystery Shawl 2014

The first installment of the Through the Loops Mystery Shawl 2014 was in my inbox when I got up on Sunday morning.

Good thing I already had my yarn, right?

And isn’t it gorgeous? It’s Black Trillium Fibre Studio Pebble Sock gradient kit in the color Persimmon. I adore it. I was just going to use something in my stash but then Margene posted that she was knitting with this stuff. And so did Kym. And it turns out that all the cool kids are using it. Resistance was futile. Of course, the other cool kids can dye their own and that’s even cooler.

So far, so good on the pattern – it’s fun and entertaining and one of those where you can immediately see it if you screw up. I’m not showing you, though, because I think there are people who don’t want to know what it’s going to look like. Or something. I’m not one to worry about spoilers but I don’t want to ruin it for anyone else.

You’ll all just have to wait. Or, even better, knit this yourself!

  1. that is gorgeous! I can’t wait to see all tthese gradients knitted up! (the only bad thing about working in a LYS is when they don’t carry the cool yarn that everyone else is using…and you have to choose something else!)

  2. Ooooo! Such a pretty color! I’m really liking the knitting of this mystery so far. (But I’m not going to show it either. . .)

  3. I have had to grip the lemming cliff with all my fingernails to resist this. Can’t wait to see what yours turns out to be.

  4. Your gradient kit made me swoon this morning! I am so obsessed with shades of orange! As tempting as it is I’ve resisted this mystery knit along, but I think a gradient shawl is in my future. Can’t wait to see yours!

  5. Pretty gradient! Mine in Periwinkle has made it into the state per USPS! Hopefully I’ll have it in my hot little hands today or tomorrow.

  6. I continued to resist…even after the Boone incident. Went for Opulence in orange and then switched this morning to a ready and waiting skein of Kashmir. I think it’s going to rock. But…I will covet those gradients for sure! That orange is gorgeous!

  7. The gradient yarn did he trick. Everyone swooned over it and succumbed. It’s fun to be knitting in a good ol’ KAL together again!

  8. Ooh, some of my favorite colors!! Yep, you can see where you screw up, but it took me longer than it should have..LOL

  9. I know a few people who are participating in that KAL. Your yarn choice is lovely. I’m sure it will turn out gorgeous!

  10. Those colors are gorgeous! Can’t wait to see the shawl when it’s done. Wouldn’t it be fun if you, Margene & Kym could do a group photo with your shawls? Even a Photoshopped one. 🙂

  11. Do you know how many people are signed up for this project? I am knitting it too, but I’m on a low-fiber diet so I went stash diving and found a nearly-solid skein of yarn in olive. (It is prettier than it sounds!) I am almost finished with clue #1—I messed up and had to start over, but that’s okay, because I usually start everything three times.

  12. Oh great choice of colorways! I may not be super cool cause I’m using stash yarn, but I’m cool enough to be on the KAL and I adore this pattern so far. It’s hard to wait for the next clue, right? I’m looking forward to your finished picture and Margene’s too 🙂

  13. I hadn’t seen persimmon. Wow, is that pretty! My knitting group is doing the mystery shawl too and we’re all using Black Trillium gradient kits. Mine is amethyst and I love it 🙂

  14. I love those colors! It was so hard for me to pick which set I wanted. I ended up with “Pine”.

Isn’t that yarn wonderful, though? I just keep petting it, and lining up the colors. I love gradient kits.

  15. I am LOVING this knit-along and, like Margene, it reminds me of the good old days. I learned so much about knitting in some of those early knit-alongs, when every turn of a stitch was dissected to within an inch of its life. Anyway, LOVE your yarn!! (It felt good to make a mess and play in the dye again!)

  16. Those colors are gorgeous. I went with the Trifle gradient kit. I’m looking forward to seeing all these mystery shawls progressing.
