Words in the Wild

February 18, 2015 By Carole

The L.L. Bean spring catalog came the other day. Does this make them hopeful? Or cruel?

I guess the photo of it in the snowbank outside my back door says it all.

The L.L.Bean catalog . . . where hope springs eternal.

Since I live in a place where Spring means snow, I’m not sure I have an impartial answer. As long as they aren’t showing swimsuits just yet…..

The answer is if you opened the catalog and ordered something for summer. That’s hope. It not, they were cruel.

Pitchers and Catchers are reporting so it has to be on it’s way!

The calendar says Spring is about a month away but reality tells us something else!

Surely L.L. Bean wouldn’t be cruel; they probably count themselves among the suffering hopeful.

    They are marketing hope.

I think it is both hopeful and cruel. Spring will come but for right now a picture like the one on the cover is just plain cruel!
