Unraveling 8/30

Friends. I am in the home stretch on my Islington Shawl. I’ve been working on this for months and months and on Sunday I finished the last row of the border chart.

I was worried I was going to run out of yarn.

But I didn’t.

Now it’s just a few rows of garter stitch and then a somewhat time consuming bind off and this beauty will be done.

On the reading front, as good as some books are, others just aren’t. 4321 may have left me with a bit of a book hangover, honestly, because everything I’ve read since has felt lackluster. BUT. I just started Little Fires Everywhere and I’m hoping that pulls me out of my reading slump.

What are you knitting and reading this week? Head over to Kat’s to see what we’ve all been doing.

  1. I played “chicken” with fabric for a quilt recently and also won. It was much closer than I would have liked, but I’ve never designed a king size quilt before.

Reading has been traded for sleep while I wait for my body to realign with the clock.

  2. Now that is what I call cutting it close, Carole. It is such a bummer to run out of yarn and try to figure out what to do. Can’t wait to see your finished shawl. I am reading Under the Influence by Joyce Maynard. It’s ok. Perhaps I need to read 4321, but after seeing the page count, perhaps not now. Happy Wednesday!

  3. OOOO! I loved Little Fires Everywhere! AND, I just picked up Everything I Never Told you by Celeste Ng for a NEW book club that is starting in my area! And, yarn chicken… scary stuff! XO

  4. I can’t wait to see that shawl! And I’m about 114 on the wait list for Little Fires 🙂 Will consider 4 3 2 1 for the holiday season!

  5. WOW – that looks like barely enough yarn to make a knot – I’m so glad you were the winner here!

And I can’t wait to see the finished shawl.

  6. After a good book I have the hardest time finding something worth reading. Criteria must be met and standards kept. 🙂 Can’t wait to see your shawl!!

  7. Wow! That was an intense game of yarn chicken you were playing. Congrats on the win! The shawl will be beautiful when you’re done. Love the color combination.

  8. I wasn’t sure you were going to make it with the yarn but am very happy you did. I’m in a reading slump, too. I have been reading a page or two on The Zookeepers Wife for a few weeks now. Not sure why, I think once as I get into it, I will want to read more and more. Need to make sure I spend some time with it this weekend. I have other books waiting for me.

  9. Whew! Glad you were able to eek out the last bit of yarn you needed.
4321 is on my list…guess I’ll move it up a tad.
    Cheers~

  10. Yay you for winning yarn chicken! I now have 4321/The Color Purple hangover. I think I’m going to watch some TV.

  11. I just finished News of the World for book club which was okay. I’m reading Fannie Flagg’s newest The Whole Town is Talking-it’s pretty funny and moving at a good pace. The last few books seem to drag, and then quickly finish.
