Weekending

It’s been a while since I wrote a regular type weekending post – probably because we haven’t had a regular type weekend in a while. And I should also say that this past weekend wasn’t regular either since it was 4 days long. Yep. We had snow days on Thursday and Friday. (For those of you keeping track that means I worked ONE day last week. ONE. I love my job but boy was that a nice way to ease into the new year after the Christmas break.

Anyway. It snowed.

The official amount for our town was 16.5 inches and we are both super grateful for the snow blower we bought back in 2015. Dale because it makes it so much easier to move the snow and me because easier for him means I don’t have to help. Winning.

I have done a lot of hibernating since Christmas since it’s been super cold here. I mean, I know it’s winter and I accept that but regular temps around here in January are usually in the 20s. To have days and days of single digit temperatures is just really unusual and I coped by staying in as much as possible. It’s perfect for pursuing things like reading, knitting and binge watching The Crown, I will say.

Still, by Friday night cabin fever was setting in and we got our act together and went out to dinner. It was fun and good to be among people (besides each other!) again.

By Saturday, though, the cold was asserting itself and we stayed home. I read and Dale cleared more snow and we worked on our list of 18 in 2018. We talked about vacation plans and listened to music and it was good.

By evening things were very hygge around here. We had some cheese & crackers and cocktails, we played Mexican Train, and we ate homemade soup. It was lovely and cozy, especially right next to the wood stove. And yes, the tree is still up. I might be almost ready to take it down. We shall see.

Sunday morning was bacon and eggs and the paper. A little more reading. A little more journaling. And then a venture out for supplies.

We brought this little guy home with us for a bit so his parents could have some adult time in a local restaurant. It was super fun! He’s at a great stage of lots of smiles and coos right now and we loved having him all to ourselves for a while!

So, all in all a pretty great start to 2018. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

  1. Sounds like a good weekend!! It was super cold up here as well, so we didn’t venture out too far either. It’s going to be nice and warm this week though…yay!
    Jack is getting so big!

  2. Reading, knitting, The Crown — me, too! Things are sort of piling up around here, but who cares? It’s still cozy in front of the Christmas tree.

  3. It has been miserable-cold here since Christmas Eve — with tons of snow — so I really feel your pain! (But we’ve got a big warm-up coming later this week; hope you do, too!) Little Jack is getting so big — and just cuter by the day. You’re going to have to find a new place for him to nap at your house very soon — because he’s outgrowing his sweet little bed. XO

  4. I’m picturing little Jack wrapped up warmly like a baby burrito to take him out in this weather! We’re beginning a slow warm up this week and hope the same is true for you. (But, yikes, a 5-day work week! Hope it’s a good one!)

  5. We’ve been hibernating too and I’m not complaining. I have to say that I’m looking forward to warmer weather this week. Jack is so cute!

  6. It sounds like you have had a fine beginning to the year! We woke to temps in the 30s this morning and after a few weeks of sub-zero and single digit temps., it feels balmy, in spite of the rain. I bet this weather will be headed your way soon!

  7. Ugh. It’s been so cold! Though I kind of like the hiding out part too! We did go out this weekend for errands and lunch but there was a fair amount of sitting, watching, knitting time here too! Hello sweet Jack!

  8. Perfect, except for the cold parts… but, even then, you made the best of it. We are above freezing for the first time in a while and it is positively BALMY. We’re all a bit giddy with the heat wave. Happy for a few days of relief…

  9. I love how hygge your weekend looks (even the snow blowing, with those pretty lights in the background could seem a little cozy). and of course that last photo … glad you didn’t miss out on your baby time!

  10. Nice weekend! I need to get back to the crown. Hallmark Channel had me with all their holiday movies. Time to get back to it now.

  11. As usual, it looks like a lovely weekend. You should write a book about how to make the most of a weekend, Carole. You are the queen of making the best of whatever happens. I hope you slide back into your work week, and you have more reasonable temps soon.

  12. Your weekend sounds super nice, like weekend should be! Hygge is perfect for days of super cold. Glad you know how to create that homey warmth.

  13. wow…..do you see the eerie face looking out of the snowblower? Like the face of winter or somethimg…but a woman’s face. i even zoomed in…it is really there. Maybe the storm face! Couldnt get past it this morning! anyway, hope all is well and you enjoyed the snow days.

  14. All that snow-goodness. Glad you found ways to not go stir crazy, I’m sure having little Jack so close certainly helps. Unfortunately, I think we are all going to be still freezing through this weekend.
