Wednesdays Are For Knitting: Funfetti Socks

Jo-Ann and I took the train to New York City and that made for some really great knitting time. I practically finished my socks on the train but ultimately (deliberately) decided to hold off so that I could say I finished them in New York City.

Because, really, how often will I have the opportunity for a hand knit photo shoot 30 stories up?

I’ve been knitting these socks since . . . forever, I think. 2 X 2 ribbing is great for comfort but for knitting it makes for a real slog.

I call them my funfetti socks because they remind me of funfetti cupcakes. I got the yarn from Cara of January One but I don’t remember what it’s called or who dyed it. I do love all those colors, though!

Kinda like the lights of Times Square, now that I think about it.

Finishing socks on a trip is a very good thing.

  1. That yarn really is lovely! And, it is very appropriate for a NYC photo shoot! (and that was great incentive to get them done!)

  2. I thought funfetti as soon as I saw them! But you are also right about the lights. The socks look great!

  3. Yes, it will be so much better to be able to casually say, “Oh these socks? I finished them in NYC.” “I finished them on the train” just doesn’t have the same ring.

I do have a list of trains I have knit on: The Sunset Limited (cross-country to California), the Chattanooga Choo Choo (or at least the antique train run the volunteers maintain at the Chattanooga train museum), the White Pass & Yukon Railroad, and the British train from New Forest to Isle of Wight (via Lymington Ferry).

  4. But once those socks have seen the bright lights of NYC, will they ever be happy anywhere else?!

Actually, I think YOU can have a swell time in funfetti socks anywhere.

  5. Love those socks! Yes, 2×2 does make the most comfortable socks, but it is a slog. Did you wear your socks in NYC?
