Thursday Things

It’s Thursday, right? I mean, I know it is but between vacation last week and a weird schedule this week, well, I’ve sort of lost track of what day it is. That’s acceptable and understandable while on vacation but not so much when you’re supposed to maybe be certain places at certain times. Anyway. It’s Thursday for sure (I actually double checked) and today I’ve got Three Things I’m feeling grateful for right now that I want to share with you.

  1. I started a gratitude journal. I’ve done this before but this time I think it’s going to stick because I’ve set it up to be very simple and fast. Basically, it’s a small journal on my kitchen table and while I wait for my coffee to brew each morning I sit there and quickly right down 5 things I’m grateful for right at that moment. So far I’ve reflected on the previous day and written things that relate to that but that’s not a rule and could change at any moment. The only rule I really have about this journal is that it has to be quick and it doesn’t have to be deep.
  2. On Monday Dale helped me to move some furniture around and reorganize my craft room. The first thing I did was take a good hard look at everything I have in there and I got rid of stuff I just don’t need and/or use anymore.  We then moved around some book cases and other furniture and brought in a new table for my Cricut. I think it’s going to be a great arrangement for working up there and I’m excited about the space for the first time in a long time. Dale is going to paint and I’m going to have my sewing machine table and another small bureau painted and we will get a new light fixture, too. I’m taking photos and documenting it all as we go along so there will be a full post about this when it’s finished.
  3. The start of the new school year always gets me excited for setting goals and I am working on setting some up for September and October now. Some of this I alluded to on Tuesday and some is just other stuff that’s not big but still important. It feels great to get things down on paper so that I don’t forget about what I want to do and how I’m going to do it.

What are you grateful for right now?

  1. I’m grateful we seem to be past the very hottest days this season. I’m grateful for friends who encourage me and listen to understand why encouragement is needed. I’m grateful my focus and self discipline seem to be returning after an unusual summer.

  2. I am grateful for a beautiful, sunny day ahead that will have a long bike ride in it . . . and that Tom is willing to dig holes for the 5(!) new trees we bought yesterday . . . and that I have a fairly open day to take care of some nagging crap without disruption. XO
(And I’m also grateful for friends like you.)

  3. I am grateful that my dog wagged her tail this morning! Her back half has been paralyzed for 3 1/2 weeks, and yesterday was her 4th acupuncture appointment. She greeted me with a TAIL WAG this morning–nothing could have surprised me more. Loads of gratitude. Love this post, Carole.

  4. I’m grateful for what looks like a small beginning of things getting better and the ability to move forward. Sometimes it’s tough to feel gratitude while wallowing in worry but it’s necessary. Thank you!

  5. I love your gratitude journal idea! Brilliant – easy and quick!

I am grateful that this is a long weekend – although, I do think it feels odd to be Labor Day already!

  6. Great post Carole! Today I am grateful for the flexibility my job allows for, a great doggy daycare and the happy anticipation of a long weekend!

  7. Oooh, I can relate in a very small way to your craft room re-do… it’s amazing how just a little organizing and editing can make a huge difference!!

  8. I am excited for your craft room makeover! I hope the reorganization helps you to be more productive and comfortable.

I am grateful today for lower humidity and sunshine. It’s a beautiful day outside and I’m glad I can be out to enjoy it!

  9. I used to keep a gratitude journal and I honestly don’t know why I let it get away from me. I used to write in mine before I went to bed, and I found that it shifted my attitude a great deal—I went through my day looking for things to be grateful for so I would have something to write about instead of focusing on the negative.

I’m getting ready to go to WalMart—maybe I will look through the school supplies and find a little spiral notebook with a pretty cover and start again. (I am grateful for your blog—I have followed you for years now. When I worked, I read your post every morning at 9AM when we had our break.)

  10. I love the idea of a gratitude journal but can’t seem to keep up with them for more than a few weeks at a time.
Can’t wait to see your craft room remodel. I’m also looking forward to seeing what you do with the Cricut. Have you been using it much?

  11. I’m grateful for some gorgeous weather and for the fact that it is Thursday (as opposed to Monday or Tuesday). Looking forward to seeing your craft room re-do!!

  12. Finding gratitude in the little things is such a great practice – and I’m impressed you can actually write anything down before you’ve had coffee. Hot Coffee makes repeated appearances on my morning lists … but of course that’s because I’m actually DRINKING it!!

  13. I keep a small little journal on my bedside table. If I am not too sleepy, I write down four good things about the day. This evening I am grateful that my husband mowed the lawn, the taste of home grown tomatoes, and a new skein of yarn to wind.

  14. I’ve lost all track of days and by the time I got around to reading this post it happens to be Tuesday and you’re headed back to work. I have a clear memory of your craft room and I am looking forward to seeing what you do to renew and revive the space into something you’ll use and love. I’m grateful for being allowed to stay home and do what catches my fancy, grateful for Smith who still enjoys his job and grateful for my Mylo who keeps me company and who entertains me all day.
