Eye Candy Friday

August 30, 2019 By Carole

Our vegetable garden was a bust this year (we really need to test our soil, I think) so I’m especially thankful for the cutting garden we planted. The zinnias are in full force right now and I’m picking a bouquet each week and loving it. And one of the best things about zinnias is the more you cut them, the more they grow!

Too bad weekends don’t work that way, huh? At least this one is a loooooong one! I’ll see you back in this space on Tuesday. Take good care, friends.

I love zinnias too. I gave up vegetable gardening except for a couple of tomato plants. It gives me an excuse to visit the farmers market. Happy Weekend!

Our garden (if I can even call it that) has been interesting this year. We have horrible soil so we brought in a load of farm dirt… and have had Everything growing, except what I planted. LOL Our tomatoes did grow though. Actually they grew like crazy – like a science experiment gone wrong crazy. But sadly, we’ve had so much rain, the tomatoes split open before they ripen.
    Beautiful zinnia!

Sorry to hear about your vegetable garden, Carole. That is discouraging! But it is lovely that your flower garden is doing so well. Have a lovely, long weekend full of wonderful things.

Red zinnias remind me of my Mom. For a few years she planted a bed of red zinnias and then harvested the seeds. Thank you for reminding me of her. Enjoy this long weekend.

If there’s one thing the pandemic has been good If there’s one thing the pandemic has been good for, it’s my sourdough game. I actually started learning about making sourdough bread a week before the stay at home orders thanks to @sprboston as he shared his starter and recipe and technique with me. Since then I have kept Mama Cass fed and alive and have baked many loaves of bread. This one might be my best one yet. I did the final proof in the fridge for 24 hours and baked it from its cold state. Great spring and ear and crumb, it was delicious with dinner tonight. #sourdough #sourdoughbread #lookatthatcrumb #lookatthatear #homebakedbread #imadeitmyself #homemadeisbest
