Three On Thursday

As I told you back in July, and then mentioned again when I started reorganizing my craft room, I recently bought a Cricut machine. If you’re unfamiliar with what this is, it’s basically a printer but instead of printing your design the machine cuts your design out of whatever material you want . . . vinyl, iron on, paper, thin wood and more. There’s a definite learning curve (don’t ask me how much vinyl I’ve wasted trying to get the cuts just right) but there are videos and tutorials galore and they are quite helpful.

Today, because it’s Thursday and because I’ve got three, I’m going to show you three things I’ve made recently with my Cricut.

This onesie (or bodysuit, as it’s technically called since onesie is a copyrighted term) for Jackie. The design was free and I had the machine cut it on iron on material so that I could transfer it to the shirt.

This t-shirt for Jackie. I paid $2 for this design on etsy because I just couldn’t resist it when I saw it. Both this shirt and the onesie were garments Jackie already had, I just asked Jess for anything plain he had that I could practice on and she gave me these.

And this mug for Hannah. I saw this design on Pinterest and I almost then bought it on etsy but decided to put my skills to the test and I did it myself with fonts from the Cricut software. It might be hard to read because of the curve of the mug but it says “Does this ring make me look engaged?” The cursive stuff is a little tricky, you have to weld the letters together, and I used the character map to get those extra swirls, and I would have preferred to do the ring itself in gold but I didn’t have any gold vinyl. Honestly, I think it’s pretty good for my first effort. Plus it made Hannah laugh when I gave it to her for her birthday – which happened on Tuesday and I forgot to tell you! My girlie is 27!

I feel like a person with a brand new label machine . . . I want to put vinyl on all.the.things and I walk through my house coming up with ideas of how I can customize and personalize our stuff. Christmas ought to be extra fun this year, I think! Plus all that wedding stuff. Oh my!

  1. My daughter made ME a cup saying (from Harry Potter) “Not MY daughter, you bitch!” I love it so much I’m afraid to use it!

  2. I was wondering how you managed to tear yourself away from Cricut-ing to go to work! It really sounds like fun, and more than that, it looks like fun. Your FOs look great and I hope you’ll share other items you make in the future.

  3. Cute stuff! Normally, like after your weekend posts, I think it must be fun to be your friend. Now… I can see a little distance might not be a bad thing until your enthusiasm dials down just a little with this new gadget.

  4. So.much.creativity! I can’t wait to see what else you do! (also, is that what people use for the wall lettering that I see so many places?)

  5. What FUN! I have a good friend here with a Cricut machine — and it is so much fun to see what she comes up with. I can’t wait to see what you do with yours! XO

  6. I have noticed a lot of people getting/using a Cricut lately and now I understand why. It looks like a lot of fun to be able to customize all the things! I can’t wait to see what you do with it for Christmas gifts and decorating.

  7. I bought a silhouette cameo and feel the exact same way. What vinyl do you use for the clothes? Is it iron on or heat press? Agree on the learning curve but it is so very fun!

  8. What a fun, new toy! I love the things that you have made so far. Looking forward to seeing all future projects, Carole.

  9. Just as with all things related to spinning yarn, I’ve donned my blinders for anything Cricut — except that these are SO DARN CUTE!

    Darn.

    So cute!!
