Hello, October

October is cool mornings, warm afternoons, and cold, clear nights
October is the end of outdoor living, the putting away of the furniture, the bringing in of the houseplants
October is boots and sweaters
October is the first wood stove fire of the season
October is planting spring bulbs
October is a cozy house with twinkle lights to keep the dark away
October is knitting and reading indoors under a patchwork quilt
October is accepting that summer is really over and winter is truly coming
October is pumpkins and mums, plaids and flannels in red and orange and brown
October is hot cider, beef stew, and warm apple pie
October is scary movies and costumes and candy
October is homecoming and football and friends

October is here.

October is also the start of our new Read With Us book club and Bonny is posting about our book, Just Mercy, today, be sure and visit her to find out what she has to say.

  1. October will be those lovely things in a couple of days, but first we need to finish up with some summer temps in the 90s. I can’t wait to be cozy in a plaid flannel shirt!

  2. I love this post! And, I love October! Soooo much! (now if these 90 degree days would just be over already!!)

  3. Here October is hot, hot, hot and gearing up for the rainy season (more, but not too many showers). Your post makes me long for fall. A little bit. Because I really can’t complain about year-long summers. 😉
Wishing you a wonderful, cozy October!

  4. I wish this first October morning was cool! We are expected to get very close to the record high temperature today, and I am not happy about it! I want sweater weather! I hope it’s more seasonal up where you are and you can get the full enjoyment out of the month.

  5. October will be nice by the end of the week. It is in the 90s here and very humid and I can’t wait for the autumn weather to arrive!

  6. What a lovely post, Carole! Welcome, October . . . although it’s super hot and muggy here again today. (As in . . . no plaid flannels or sweaters or boots for me quite yet!!!) XO

  7. Welcome October, indeed!

I’m afraid I didn’t get my act together to join the book group this time–do you know what your future selection might be?

  8. Your list sounds glorious! I wish we were having sweater & fire weather. We’re having a heat wave & it’s supposed to be 98 & 97 degrees over the next two days. Ugh! You might wake up one morning to find me camping on your front steps. 🙂

  9. Just listened to Bryan Stevensons TT. Thanks for the link. October should have vibrant sunsets.

  10. October is here and in Atlanta it’s hot as hell. They “say” it’ll cool off by Saturday-I’m not optimistic! Finally getting caught up on all my blog reading.
