Three On Thursday

Well, friends, it’s Thanksgiving, the day those of us talking about gratitude on Thursdays have been training for! Here’s my 3 for today:

  1. Looking at the news this morning I can say that I’m very thankful I don’t have to travel on this holiday. Later on we will get in the car and drive 1/2 a mile up the street, turn right, and drive 1/2 mile down that street to the home of our friends the Nelsons. That’s the extent of our holiday travel!
  2. I’m grateful for all the things I have: a cozy home, a new car to drive, clothes and shoes, books and yarn, plenty of food to eat, electronics and more. I have a job and Dale has a job and we can pay our bills and save and take vacations. It’s a privilege that many don’t have and I’m mindful of it daily.
  3. I’m thankful for the people in my life. I have a husband who loves me (and I love him right back), adult kids that I truly enjoy spending time with, grandkids and an extended family who mean the world to me. I have amazing friends, thoughtful neighbors, talented colleagues, and the best blog readers a writer could ask for. There are people who are gone and I miss them but I’m grateful for the memories of happy times with them.

And there you have it – a little schmaltzy today but it’s Thanksgiving and if you can’t be schmaltzy about what you’re grateful for on Thanksgiving then when can you?

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, friends.

  1. Learned a new word today… Schmaltzy. I love it. I got a little (or actually a whole lot) schmaltzy too on my blog today. It’s sort of the spirit of the holiday, isn’t it?
We don’t really celebrate Thanksgiving in the Netherlands (there’s a similar church festivity on the first Wednesday of November, but it’s not a national holiday), but with all the Americans here on the island, and my blog connections, it’s slowly settling in my life too. I like it. We’re even going to have a Thanksgiving dinner with (a lot of) friends this Saturday.
Wishing you and yours a very happy Thanksgiving!

  2. I hope you had a truly wonderful Thanksgiving, Carole. I feel very lucky in so many ways, and I am delighted to have found someone on the web that makes me think and impacts my life in such a positive way.

  3. I have many of the same things to be thankful for — and given the weather report, I was happy we only had to drive about a mile and a half!

Hope it was a wonderful day for you and yours!

  4. I hope you had a wonderful day yesterday Carole, I’m fortunate to have much of the same to be grateful for. Here’s to two more days!
