Knit On

Today I’m grateful for the many hobbies I have. Reading. Knitting. Journaling. They are excellent distractions and good for my soul.

And so, yesterday as I was swatching for my NightShift Shawl, I couldn’t help but think of Elizabeth Zimmerman’s quote. Today I’m sharing it with you, hoping that it will bring you comfort and confidence as we maneuver through uncharted territory.

  1. Yes, Elizabeth had it right, and I appreciate you reminding us of that. I can’t wait to see your progress on your shawl. We have much to be grateful for, even if the times are uncertain.

  2. Here in California we are under a shelter in place order now, only going out for “essential” needs. It changes a little when it’s a legal order. Thank goodness I have knitting but my husband is going a little stir crazy and I can’t hug my son or granddaughters! Worry about my 96 year old mother living in a retirement community nearby. They are on lockdown too, which I totally understand. They are the most vulnerable. She has her knitting too??

  3. Working my way through the NYT Crossword archive is helping me also. When I knit, I’m also binge watching the Fruity Knitting podcast to keep my mind from going in the wrong direction. I’m on Episode 85 out of 96.

  4. I am SO GLAD I knit right now. Keeping my hands busy is a huge help. I hope you’ll share a WIP photo of Nightshift soon – can’t wait to see how the colors work up!!

  5. One cross stitcher I follow on You Tube said “We’ll be all right – it’s what we’ve trained for!” Stash + opportunity to knit/stitch is something to enjoy.

  6. I have been finding comfort in knitting as well! And, Night Shift is the perfect thing – seeing how the colors play together is so much fun!

  7. The Nightshift colors are beautiful. I look forward to seeing your progress. And Elizabeth Zimmermann knew something about anxiety and fear. If I remember correctly, she and her husband had to walk out of Austria or Germany to escape the Nazi’s. Here’s to hope and knitting and Spring.

  8. I’ve been thinking of this EZ quote a lot lately as well as the one about knitting being good for a troubled soul (and an untroubled one, too). I haven’t been able to knit much this week as I’ve been busy with work, but the main event I’ve been working on just got canceled, so now perhaps there will be more knitting time.

  9. oh gee great. I’m working 55 hours/week to set up and monitor remote systems, I never got a chance to buy TP b/o work, and now you tell me to knit on.
    At least I have stash.

  10. I think of that quote all the time these days! 🙂 (Well. That and REM’s “The End of the World as We Know It.” But we don’t need to mention that, do we?) XO
