Wednesdays Are For Knitting: Coins Cowl

I finished my first Coins Cowl recently and now that it’s blocked I can share photos of it with you.

The pattern comes from Kaffe Fassett and is available from the Mason Dixon Field Guide No. 13.

It is, as declared in the book, a choose-your-own-adventure sort of pattern and that’s generally something that makes me . . . nervous when it comes to my knitting. As in, my go-to is a pattern that spells it all out.

I let that go this time, though, and chose colors willy nilly. I’m really happy with the result.

And I know I’ll be making more of these. I have colors of the Rowan Felted Tweed I didn’t use in this one plus each row only uses a bit of yarn so . . . yeah . . . this could be my new potato chip knitting pattern.

This one, though, is for me!

  1. That is absolutely beautiful!! <3 Great Job Carole! What type of yarn is it, is it a wool type of material? (Only asking as I am allergic but would love to keep my eyes out for something of the sort for the girls and I).

  2. I just listened to a Ted talk about joy and she said round objects elicit joy so this is the perfect knitting for such a time as this!

  3. And if you line it with something that filters (I’ve read that clean vacuum cleaner bags are perfect!!!!) you can pull it up over your mouth and nose, and be protected from viruses! (Sorta joking, sorta not.)

  4. It’s beautiful! I can certainly see why you’d want to knit another. Ooh – think of the color schemes possible: one for nippy autumn nights around a bonfire, one for the Christmas season, a pastel one for when you’re wishing for Spring, but Winter hangs on. You could even do a riff on your Alma Mater’s colors. Get those colored pencils out and doodle!

  5. It’s perfect – a useful object that is also beautiful! Wishing you lots more knitting comfort and happiness with more Coins Cowls!

  6. This is gorgeous, Carole. You should contemplate it and have greater confidence in your color sense. I have been watching these appear at MDK and loving them. I hope you have a good day today and find joy and peace as you go about your new routine.

  7. So much fun! I love all the colors and what a perfect way to use up those left over balls of yarn that I have laying all over this studio!

    PS…you look great!

    xoxo

  8. Absolutely beautiful Carole! The colors are great…people all over are going to be remarking on how awesome it is!

  9. So beautiful! Thanks for the reminder – I’ve been meaning to knit one of those cowls. Or maybe a pillow cover. Whatever – thanks for the reminder. I should get my pattern book out and put it in my knitting bag so I don’t forget again 10 minutes from now.

  10. wow! I love it! (I would love to see a photo of the inside … I tend to shy away from projects like that because I hate all the ends!)
