Weekending

I had about as typical a weekend as I’ve had in a long time. Not typical when compared to . . . the before time. There wasn’t hanging out with friends or shopping or going out to eat. But typical for the . . . now time. Quiet. Relaxed. Content. I don’t have a lot of photos to show you but I do have one from each day.

Friday:

Snacks. You know. Although, not as elaborate as usual since we’d both had sandwiches mid afternoon and we didn’t want anything at all until late in the evening. Triscuits with melted sharp cheddar cheese and little bits of green pepper (that I grew myself thankyouverymuch) was our go-to snack back in our early days together. I’d actually never had it before and when Dale made it for me the first time I marveled at how delicious and simple it was. It’s still a favorite, even though we don’t make it very often. Not pictured: time on the deck. And . . . wait for it . . . dancing in the kitchen. It’s been a loooooong time since that has happened around here and I might have gotten a little verklempt about it. Just saying.

Saturday:

Dinner. Swordfish and roasted red potatoes and Brussels sprouts. You can see that I had already started eating when I thought to take a photo. It was delicious. And simple. The way any good romantic dinner should be. Not pictured: lots of reading time. Puttering around the yard. Deciding not to put out my fall decorations yet. Dancing in the kitchen. Yes, again. I think we’re making up for lost time.

Sunday:

A walk down back. Everything is still so green and lovely. It was a little bit humid but it was comfortable enough. Dale followed me along in his dad’s golf cart. It’s not the way we’d normally take this walk together but it was a great way for Dale to get out and enjoy the scenery. When we got to the river we reminisced about how much time we spent there in our dating days, often meeting for dinner on Mondays when I worked late at the library and he watched Hannah for me. That was 24 years ago now. Wow. Not pictured: football (yay Pats!) and a fresh loaf of sourdough bread.

How was your weekend?

  1. I’m glad Dale’s leg has healed enough for dancing in the kitchen, and hope that soon he’ll be ready for a walk down back. I miss the hanging out with friends and eating out from the before time, but not the shopping. I did buy a watch battery last weekend, and it made me so happy to have a working watch!

  2. My weekend was nothing special or unusual. It was also the first one like that since July. In other words, it was perfectly relaxing. Glad yours was so good it was barely documented.

  3. So glad y’all are dancing again!!! XO
And I love thinking about Dale . . . as your “pace car” on your walk. 😀 I’m hoping he can be walking right beside you again soon.

  4. Your food looks delicious and the walk looks so inviting. But the best part? Hearing that you two have resumed dancing in the kitchen! YAY for healing. What a lovely weekend Carole.

  5. What a lovely weekend, Carole – I got verklempt about the dancing!! (twice!) Sure sounds like your weekend was just what you needed … and that makes it perfect!

  6. So not fair! LOL I’m doing the walk-in thing at the hair stylist and the wait is long and my stomach was growling…. And I see your food photos and now the people sitting 6 feet away can hear my hunger. LOL. Sounds like you had a nice, quiet weekend.
