Three On Thursday

I’m feeling a little random this week so I’m going to share 3 things that aren’t connected but are relevant in my life right now

  1. Yesterday I turned in my nomination papers to run for the Board of Selectmen for my second term. That’s right, it’s been 3 years already! The way it works around here is that you go to your Town Clerk and get papers, which need to be signed by at least 50 registered voters in town who want to see your name on the ballot. I took out my papers last Wednesday, the first day they were available, and by Monday night I had filled both sheets which is 64 signatures. I dropped them off today so I’m officially running again. And I’m excited about it! I enjoy the work and feel like I still have things to contribute to make our town a better place to live.
  2. I have resisted the allure of TikTok from the beginning but lately I’m having more and more friends encourage me to give it a try. Seriously, the last thing I need is another social media platform! I definitely reach the most people on Facebook (even though I try and spend very little time scrolling these days) and I love Instagram but have a hard time keeping up with all the posts. I’m on Snapchat but only so I can see cute videos of Jackie. TikTok just seems like another . . . thing to waste time. Having said that, I’ve seen a couple of videos that have cracked me right up and I’m tempted.
  3. All the hibernating we’ve been doing since Christmas has meant we’ve watched a bunch of shows. I’m guessing none of these are new to you but the ones we’ve enjoyed over the last few weeks are: The Mandalorian, The Queen’s Gambit, Bridgerton, and The Crown. If I had to pick a favorite from the list I’d have a hard time choosing between Queen’s Gambit and Bridgerton. Truly, you can’t go wrong with any of them and they are all pretty different, too.

And that’s it for me this Thursday. If you wrote a post for today please include your link below and thanks, as always, for joining the link party.

  1. Woo-hoo for your next run, Carole! Does your town hold a special election for Selectmen? Sounds like it’s not part of the November election (or is it just really early paperwork?). What a great way to be an intimate, working part of your community.

  2. Congratulations on running for the Board of Selectmen again! I’m afraid that the last place I would want to spend my energy is in politics these days, but I’m sure that your town is a better place because of you, and I bet that will continue. I’ve resisted watching The Queen’s Gambit a second time but I just may start my re-watch in the next couple of days. So good (and the book is great, too)!

  3. Congratulations on deciding to continue your public service! I admire that very much. I think The Queen’s Gambit has no equal lately for great entertainment. Bridgerton was OK, predictable light entertainment, but no comparison for me. I have managed to only lurk on social media for specific reasons, and I like it that way.

  4. Congratulations, Carole!! I will enjoy the TikToks that others (possibly you?) share on other social media platforms… do.not.need!! (I’m on Snapchat for vids of the kids, too, and now of Maddy’s chickens!) I loved The Queen’s Gambit and Bridgerton for very different reasons; need to catch up on The Crown, and haven’t watched a single second of The Mandalorian (should maybe look & see what that’s about).

  5. I’m so excited you’ve decided to run for a second term, Carole! You are a great representative for your town, and I know how committed you are to making it a great place for everyone. Go Carole, go! XO
And I need to convince Tom to watch Bridgerton with me . . .

  6. E. Bridgewater is so very lucky to have you! And yes and yes to The Queen’s Gambit and Bridgerton for very different reasons. So good and so fun.

  7. Yay for running again! I really admire anyone who steps up to represent their fellow citizens, especially right now.

Of the series you mentioned, I’ve watched all but The Mandalorian, but I’d like to watch that, too (my brother lets us use his Disney+ subscription, but at the moment we can only get it on one TV, which is not my preferred one to watch on).

  8. Wow – has it been 3 years? It is great that you have found this to be such rewarding work. I am flummoxed by Instagram lately. The stories feature is so heavily used and means more time online. I have tried not watching the stories but then I have missed some things. I have started taking days off and actually unfollowed a bunch of accounts. Back and forth we go.

  9. Congratulations, I’m so glad you are running again. I have to say, the Queens Gambit topped our list

  10. Good luck with your campaign. I feel about Instagram the way you feel about TicToc. I have a social media presence on FB and Twitter, but I often neglect them for months at a time. Friends have encouraged me to join Insta, but I don’t know…

  11. Congratulations Carole! Your town is lucky to have you.
We enjoyed Rake on Netflix. It’s about an Australian lawyer who is indeed a rake.

  12. I think that’s amazing that you’re running again. We need more people like you in public office. Also, I LOVED Bridgerton!

  13. Yay for the 2nd term. I wish you were the First Selectman in my town!
We’ve been watching Imposters — it’s a con storyline with some humor and sweet relationships–not too heavy.

  14. wow, Carole – these three years have flown by! and congratulations on a solid start to your 2nd campaign. Now that Sara is gone, Marc and I are looking forward to finishing The Crown and I would love to see if Marc will watch Bridgerton with me (he’s excited about Virgin River season 2 … so maybe?!)

  15. Hooray for your second campaign! I love Bridgerton and am avidly listening to the audio books. I need to check out the Queen’s Gambit.

  16. Wow! Three years and they have flown by! Congratulations. I have no doubt that you will be voted in for another term and that your town/village will be better for that. We’ve been watching The Crown, but I have to say that it is a struggle – neither of us are really liking this latest season. Seems fairly lame. Next up we will watch The Queen’s Gambit – looking forward to that. And Bridgerton looks fab too.

  17. Congratulations to you on your second run. You have a vision for your town and the people you represent see you’re the person to make it happen. I have found the more apps I have to check the more time I spent on-line and that’s not a good thing. I have cut back on scrolling and that will be my goal for 2021. LESS is more. We don’t watch much TV but we enjoyed Bridgerton and The Crown, but also have a few more on our list. Next up is Apple TVs Ted Lasso.

  18. Clearly I am not keeping up with social media if I am just responding now, but Yay!!! I am cheering you on with your new run for Selectman!!!

I LOVED the Queen’s Gambit and the Crown. Ken is meh about Bridgerton, but I will keep with it. We just started watching Peaky Blinders with the same actress in the Queen’s Gambit and so far it is very good.

  19. Congratulations on running for another term in office! Best of luck, although I suspect that you have already impressed many voters with your diligence and care.

I watched the first episode of Bridgerton but had a tough time keeping the characters straight. Maybe I will try episode 2 and see if it gets easier. Haven’t sampled Mandalorian yet.

  20. Good for you on running again. Local politics is so vital for our communities. LOVED Bridgerton, and have heard great things about The Queen’s Gambit. Season 4 of The Crown was devoured the moment is was available.

  21. My daughter has forbidden me from going on TikTok. LOL, I think she’s afraid I’ll start posting things.
Wishing you a good run for Board of Selectman!
