Weekending

I haven’t written a weekend wrap up post in ages, probably because, like many of you, my weekends are all pretty much the same … I stay home. This weekend, though, felt different. Maybe it was the glorious weather, maybe it was knowing more and more of my friends are getting vaccinated, or maybe I’m just getting used to this lifestyle. Whatever the reason, here’s what we did.

I declared Friday, the last day of winter, an unofficial pajama day. And by pajamas I mean flannel pants and a long sleeved t-shirt. Jackie was over in the afternoon and we watched movies and snuggled on the couch. He shared our Friday Night Snacks (the kid loves cheese and crackers and salami!) and then went home with him parents. Dale and I caught up over cocktails and music and watched some television.

On Saturday we officially hit the campaign trail for my reelection as town selectman. Things are way less stressful for me as I’m unopposed on the ballot but I still want to make the effort to get my name out there and let people know I appreciate their support. Dale and I drove around town for 3 hours setting up campaign signs. It was a gorgeous day and we had a lot of laughs which made it not feel like work at all. We hit the local butcher shop on the way home for steaks and also picked up some burgers and fish for future dinners.

We had cocktails outside and a socially distanced visit with Dale’s dad. He’s fully vaccinated now but Dale and I aren’t so we are still being careful around him. Once it got chilly we headed in for music and dinner prep and some dancing in the kitchen. It was a pretty perfect evening, I must say.

Sunday was another glorious day and we had brunch on the deck for the first time this year. We read and relaxed and then spent the afternoon doing some yard work and puttering around. We did the same cocktails on the deck routine only this time dinner was burgers on the grill, hopefully the first of many this season.

Now that we can be outside again I am so looking forward to being with friends … just a few more weeks now!

How was your weekend?

  1. I am actually starting to . . . set plans up with friends in April (after my vaccines are finished) . . . which feels so good! (Cautious plans. But plans all the same.) So glad you had such a wonderful – and refreshing – weekend! XO

  2. That sounds like a delightful weekend and you certainly took advantage of the good weather! I’m wishing I had a delicious brunch like the one you guys had on the deck, but it’s Monday and I might have to make do with just toast. Have a good week, Carole!

  3. Your weekend looks perfect! I did chores and enjoyed the sunshine. I had a pretty good weekend myself!

  4. The checker at the grocery store asked me if I had big plans for the weekend and I had no idea what to say! Your deck sure looks inviting.

  5. We sat outside with some friends after a beautiful walk. It was such a nice weekend! We set the deck up too…such a great feeling!

  6. Sounds like a FABULOUS weekend! Dale and I talked this am and we will absolutely be throwing a couple signs up in my front yard, I was going to mention it to you today but Dale beat me to it!!! 🙂 Good guy you got there, have a great Monday!

  7. This weekend felt different to me as well, lighter somehow. I guess since I have had my first vaccine shot, I feel more hopeful than I have in months! We had a wonderful weekend, puttering around on Saturday, then fun family time Saturday night, some outdoor chores on Sunday in that glorious sunshine, and a cozy night watching some TV shows in bed Sunday night.

  8. I love that acknowledgement of the last day of winter. I think I focus so much on the equinox or solstice that I really don’t consider the season that’s closing! This makes me stop and think about that… And what a sweet way to close it out. Sounds like my kind of cozy.

  9. Oh Carole – your weekend sounds delightful! and I’m so glad the weather cooperated to allow y’all so much outside time. I’m also a little bit “huh, so soon?” that you’re already up for re-election … and then I recall the “lost” last 12 months and realize of course you are. Kudos to you for getting to do this one un-opposed. clearly no one thinks they could possibly do a better job (and I’m not one bit surprised)!
