Wednesdays Are For Knitting: Something Blue Socks

To put it bluntly, the socks feel a little anticlimactic after the wedding sweater, right? But it’s Wednesday and it’s knitting so here are the Something Blue Socks I knit for Hannah to wear with her Kate Spade sparkly sneakers on her wedding day.

I sort of used Helen Stewart’s pattern for Lavender Field Socks but also, not really. I mean, the lace portion is definitely from her pattern, but the picot edge and heel and all of the other details are just the same as my regular picot edge socks.

The yarn is Dream in Color Smooshy (with cashmere, of course) in the color Iceland. The yarn, just like everything else about that day, was perfect.

And that’s the story of the wedding socks.

  1. They’re perfect. And what a wise move on a deadline, take a trustworthy and familiar pattern and then enhance it to make it fit the moment and the person. You met the Knitting Mom bar with room to spare for this event.

  2. You are right, they are perfect for the day; the socks, the color, the momma love, and the name of the yarn! If I were Hannah, I don’t know if I could find the nerve to wear them much for fear of wearing them out.

  3. The socks are just lovely. I have taken a break from sock knitting but looking to get back to it soon. I have a few of Helen’s sock patterns so I will take another look at my options. And until I opened your post, I had forgotten that it was Wednesday!

  4. I don’t think the socks are anticlimactic at all! They are a really lovely pair of socks, knit with love. I’d also be afraid of wearing them out. Maybe Hannah can wear them once a year on her anniversary!

  5. What a perfect story for those socks! Now for her decide if she will wear them out like crazy (like life?) or save them as “special”. No matter what, they are perfect and they always will be – for you and for her!

  6. Oh Carole, the socks are so pretty … I haven’t knit a pair of anything except plain ol’ stockinette in YEARS … and I probably need to branch out. I think I said that when you shared the pattern you’d chosen, and yep, still thinking about it!
