Three On Thursday

How about 3 random things for this week? A little . . . housekeeping . . .

  1. Thank you so much for the wonderful birthday wishes and the compliments on Dale’s post. I appreciate how much you all enjoy his annual guest spot and I’m grateful for all of your comments. Thank you, also, for sympathizing with my current hand and wrist pain situation. It’s no fun and I miss knitting but I’m hoping it’s only temporary and I appreciate the advice and good juju you sent. Now if I could just find something to do while watching television I’d be all set.
  2. I said I’d tell you about the app I recently started using to help with meal planning. It’s called Plan to Eat and it’s working really well for me. It’s not free (and this isn’t an ad or endorsement) but it’s a great way to track the recipes I want to try (I’m forever pinning things on Pinterest boards and promptly forgetting about them) and I love seeing the week at a glance and being able to plug in meal ideas that coincide with our schedule. I tried it for free first and then I took the plunge and I’m really glad I did.
  3. It’s now officially fall in the northern hemisphere and Mabon started yesterday and goes through next Wednesday. I’ll be decorating with leaves and pumpkins, lighting candles, and making an apple pie. I’ll also be journaling and spending some time thinking about what has served me well this past year and what I need to release. It’s a great time of year to take stock of your life and make your home cozy for the coming season.

And that’s all I have for you this Thursday. If you wrote a post, please share your link below.

  1. I’m going to take a look at that meal planning app, but I’m really loving my current planning. With nobody else to consider for dinner, I just ask myself what I want, and then make a bowl of cereal or grilled cheese in just a few minutes!

  2. I should make my picky kid use that app so that I don’t have to constantly agonize over what to make for dinner that she will eat!

  3. I wish those apps had been around when I had a house full, but now it is just 2 of us, and we don’t eat much these days. Figuring out what to make for dinner is still a bit of a challenge, but not like it was in times past. Sounds like a great organizer! I’m with you – let’s enjoy this most wonderful time of the year.

  4. I have to laugh about the app . . . because I “made my own app” that does just that WAY back before there even WERE apps. In my paper planner, I keep a column for “dinners” . . . which I plan based on my calendar action. And I have a notebook to track my recipes for inspiration — family favorites, holidays, new things I want to try, etc. — including where to find them. It’s my tried-and-true paper system (and I’m a pen-and-paper kind of gal at heart)! I’m so glad they’ve designed an app to do it — because I’ll be it’s super helpful for lots of people! 🙂 (And with our rather drastic drop in temperatures pretty much overnight, I’m all about getting my house all cozied-up for fall.)

  5. I hear you on needing something to do while watching tv! I usually read but what about solitaire or a jigsaw puzzle or soduku or a crossword?

  6. I just read the comments you got on your post about carpal tunnel and was astonished to see that no one recommended surgery. I had carpal tunnel surgery about 15 years ago and it was a lifesaver. I had it outpatient and driving home from the procedure I said to my husband: the pain is gone. I had been having awful pain (not-sleeping type) with no comfortable positions for a long time (couple of years getting steadily worse) and I have never had a single solitary twinge since the surgery. Seriously. I knit and keyboard all the time and no pain. I recovered from the surgery in about a week. Please, give this some consideration; it’s like a miracle.
