Weekending

It’s been a while since I did a weekending post, mostly because weekends have been spent quietly at home. This weekend wasn’t all that different, but it does illustrated a slice of our life right now.

Friday was an at-home day, with some strength training to start things off right and then plenty of time for reading and puttering, organizing a shelf in the kitchen and sorting out my coat rack . . . to prepare for having to actually wear a coat again soon. Friday Night Snacks have fallen a bit by the wayside the last few weeks, instead we got sushi for dinner and finished watching Nine Perfect Strangers on hulu.

On Saturday I took myself to Home Goods to shop for some fun fall things for the house. Dale teased me about not buying any pillows, a long standing joke around here, but I did still come home with one. And a fall wreath for over our bed. I also went to both Michaels and Target, neither of which I have been too since January 2020 . . . and I left without buying anything. I guess the pandemic has changed my shopping habits and not in a bad way. We had a wonderful dinner at Sean’s that night, it was fun to relax and eat delicious food, and catch up.

On Sunday we went to a local nursery and got mums and kale and pumpkins for my window boxes and a new hydrangea for the front bed. Dale moved the struggling Annabelle into a shadier spot and planted the new Limelight that we bought and he helped with weeding and the window boxes, too. There was some football and some meal prep and planning for the week ahead. We got caught up on Impeachment and that was about it.

It was a typical early fall weekend and I enjoyed it all.

How was your weekend?

This Post Has 11 Comments

  1. Saw the first episode of “Impeachment,” and realized I did not want to relive the story.

  2. It sounds like autumn has arrived at your house and it looks lovely! I hope your hydrangea moving results in less struggle and more blooms.

  3. It sounds like a very satisfying weekend, Carole. (And I have no interest in watching Impeachment, but I would love to hear your thoughts on Nine Perfect Strangers. While I haven’t been able to convince Tom that it would be a show-to-watch, he’s going to start curling again soon . . . which means I’ll have total control of the remote at least one night a week!) 😉

  4. I don’t give a fig about watching Impeachment. As boring as streaming has been for me lately, I’m not _that_bored. It may be that I lived through all that, and you didn’t. As usual, you seem to have the seasons under control at your house, and it looks cozy! Your weekend sounds just about right to me, Carole, productive and fun at the same time.

  5. I need to put “Nursery” on my list — I’ve been wanting a couple of things and now would be a good time to go! I went straight to Halloween (even though it’s not my favorite “holiday”) and put up a cute little witch!

  6. Sounds like a lovely weekend! (and I am nodding my head to the change in shopping habits… yes, it’s a very good thing!)

  7. I am looking forward to seeing more signs of fall around your house as you share them! I’ve seen a few mums show up in the neighborhood, and one house nearby has a massive ornamental gourd display that I’m pretty sure they had a professional service do.

We had a beautiful weekend here, and it was perfect for being outside. My daughter and I went to a local coffee shop for a bit on Saturday morning to meet up with some other mothers and daughters to plan for this year’s Girl Scouts activities, and I think it did us both some good to do a “normal” weekend activity.

  8. It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend, and in many ways, similar to how I spent my weekend! Fall is my favorite season, although I don’t go overboard on decorating and I’m not a fan of pumpkin spice. I do like to savor the season and spend as much time outdoors as possible before winter sets in. Hope you have a nice week!
