Weekending

I may have worked part of the week but I ended strong with a fun weekend.

On Friday, we went to Castle Island with Hannah, Jessica, and Jackie. For those of you who don’t live in the Boston area, Castle Island is not, despite it’s name, an island. It actually used to be an island, but in 1928 a strip of land was added to make is accessible by car. Parking is free, a rarity around here, and it’s a beautiful area to walk, watch the planes land at Logan, and enjoy the good weather. Most people eat at Sullivan’s, the only restaurant there, but the line was crazy long so after we walked around and Jackie played at the playground we left and headed to Tony’s Clam Shoppe at Wollaston Beach. The fried seafood was such a treat and the rum punch didn’t disappoint either.

On Saturday night, Dale and I attended the Plymouth County League of Sportsmen Annual Banquet. We, along with many other members of our family, were invited guests as they awarded my late brother-in-law Randy with a Lifetime Achievement Award. They had many pieces of Randy’s artwork on display and it was really touching to have him honored in this way. Some of it was emotionally challenging, of course, but it was wonderful to be with our family and have this experience and know how many people Randy touched and that he is still remembered.

On Sunday, I went to a bridal shower for Jo-Ann’s future daughter-in-law. This wedding was supposed to happen in 2020 so to say we were excited for this day to finally arrive would be an understatement! It was a lovely affair with yummy food and good company and a very happy future bride. Showers are definitely not my thing (let’s face it, it’s really only fun if you’re the one getting the gifts hahaha) but I’m glad I could be there to share in the happiness of the day.

It was a lot of people-ing for this introvert so I’m grateful for the time I was able to spend reading and knitting and hanging out at home.

How was your weekend?

  1. That sounds like a wonderful weekend, Carole! So much to celebrate — and, yeah. A LOT of people-ing. . . (You and Jo-Ann look so cute!) XO

  2. Sounds like a great “almost” vacation, Carole. Yes, this introvert is challenged by those kinds of activities as well, but you looked very pretty, so there’s that. Hope your re-entry is smooth, and the week is low key.

  3. What a fun and full weekend! You and Jo-Ann did look so lovely! 🙂

(and I am imagining that Jackie must have loved watching the planes take off and land from your vantage point!)

  4. I would choose a clam shack over Sullivan’s any day of the week!! LOL Love your dress – you do look so pretty Carole. Sounds and looks like a very nice weekend. So nice to read about Randy’s award – I bet that was emotional, but so satisfying too.

  5. Next, you’re probably going to burst my bubble and tell me Castle Island doesn’t have a castle on it! I’m glad you had a great week of semi-vacation. It sounds like the perfect combination of work, relaxation, family, friends, and fun.

  6. I kind of remember when I lived in Boston (in the late 80s early 90s) I rode my bike to Castle Island to watch Old Ironsides turn around? Could that be right?

  7. Sounds like a fun weekend — but also an exhausting one for an introvert! I hope today is a quiet day to recover.

  8. It sounds like a wonderful weekend filled with family, friends and love. I have never heard of Castle Island even when I lived close by…it’s lovely!

  9. What a fun weekend for people-ing! and hoping (now that it’s Wednesday) your introvert self has started to recover … mine has … just a bit!
