Currently: Mid September Update

Summer is slipping away and signs of fall are starting to show in the temperatures I’m feeling and the leaves I’m seeing. Let’s do a what’s-happening-around-here update.

Reading: Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney. Spoiler alert: I don’t love it.

Knitting: Dale’s Musselburgh hat. I thought I might have it finished by this week but I’m not quite there yet. Soon, though. And then I’ll be picking up my Iceland Cardigan again.

Watching: Only Murders in the Building, season 2. It’s so good and I’m bummed that we are almost finished.

Cutting: dahlias and zinnias for as long as I’m able.

Eating: tomatoes and cucumbers from our garden while they last.

Arranging: fall décor in the house, pumpkins and faux foliage and candles. It’s all so cozy and I love it.

Planning: One last camping trip. I don’t want it to be cold but I won’t be sad if it’s sweater-weather.

Learning: To modify yoga poses to make them work for my body. It’s something I never considered before (I thought if I got good enough at yoga that I wouldn’t need to modify) and it’s blowing my mind at the difference this makes.

Ordering: The 2022 Wine Advent Calendar from the NPR Wine Club. I wasn’t going to get it this year and then I saw it and . . . I caved.

Enjoying: The Read With Us Book Club so very much. Thank you to everyone who participated this month, or ever. And if you haven’t because you’re uncertain or shy or anything like that, please give it a try. We’re very very easy to be with.

Unsubscribing: from as many emails as possible. I don’t have a clue how I got on some of these lists but I am a serial unsubscriber.

And that’s all I can think of today. Hope all is well in your little corner of the world.

  1. I, too, just love the Read With Us book clubbers… as Vera said last night… all the lovely ladies have become friends and that makes me so happy!

I am intrigued by your Yoga tweaks… I would love to know what you are doing!

  2. I sent my sister a wine advent calendar for the holidays once . . . and she sent me a tea version the same year. Let me tell you, she enjoyed the wine calendar A LOT more than I enjoyed the tea one. (Just sayin.) 😉
I’m so glad you’ve found ways to make yoga work for you! Yoga is for EVERY body, but often not without modifications. And we loved Only Murders in the Building. It’s just a charming little show!

  3. Ooh, I hope that wine advent calendar is good! My brother and sister-in-law bought one last year (from Aldi, maybe?) and said it was terrible, but I think when you buy a cheap one, you can’t expect good wine!

Last night was so much fun, and I’m so happy to be part of this group. I am really looking forward to the next book!

  4. Unsubscribe for the win!

Yes to modified yoga. The best is if you have a teacher knowledgeable enough to help you modify things for your specific needs. But I think of it as walking at a suitable pace when running is too challenging.

  5. Enjoy your Planet Money Cabernet! I’ve never had the wine, but love hearing the names mentioned on air. I’ve rewatched much of The Crown, so maybe I’ll try Only Murders next. I get two emails a day (Audible and Heather Cox Richardson) and have managed to unsubscribe from everything else. I’m inordinately proud of this small accomplishment! And I also loved our discussion last night, and reading everyone’s comments in their voices this morning!

  6. I am a serial subscriber too so a regular unsubscribe session is important. And I need to embrace yoga modifications. I know it would be so good to be back on the mat.

  7. Your routine sounds so much like ours at the moment. It truly is autumnal here. Last night was so enjoyable and I’m sorry I can only stay an hour. Seeing your faces reminds me of how much I miss you!!

  8. I would love to hear how you are learning to do yoga pose modifications. Yeah, fall! My favorite season, but it is still in the 90’s here, so I don’t know if I am going to have a fall this year, or just a quick progression to winter later on. I hope your last camping trip is perfect, or really close to perfect.

  9. A wine advent calendar??? I need to check that out…it sounds like fun!
I enjoyed our discussion last night and I want to thank you, Kym, & Bonny for hosting Read With Us!
The weather here has been very autumnal for the past week, but summer will be back in full force by the weekend with temps in the 90s right through next week.

  10. Sorry about “Daisy Darker” – it sounds so promising! Yes, Fall is creeping in and I’m loving it. I almost had to put a shawl on this morning:) When I was taking yoga classes weekly, I learned a lot of modifications from my teacher. The arthritis in my shoulder (and joints all over) limits what I can do. I really need to get back to yoga…but I prefer a SMALL class and that is hard to find (my former studio closed). Oh I hope your upcoming camping trip is just perfect. I will miss camping this Fall (we are doing Air BnBs instead). Like you (and apparently everyone else) I really enjoyed last night’s discussion and Zoom meet up for Read With Us. I’m so glad I finally decided to participate a few books back. Finally, we had so many tomatoes picked that I ended up roasted them yesterday. Next up I will pick some green ones for Fried Green Tomatoes! YUM

  11. I tend to modify some yoga poses as needed. I also need to do another unsubscribe session with my email. Every day I open my email and say I need to do that. Maybe I’ll plan that for this weekend.
