Pie Day!

Today is the day for baking the Thanksgiving pies, friends. I am making 4 this year. 4 pies for 8 guests. Yep. But the reality is that when it comes to Thanksgiving, it’s important to have everyone’s favorite. So we will have . . . apple, mincemeat, pumpkin, and cranberry pecan.

I made the crusts yesterday so I’m ready to hit the ground running this morning. And everything else is also on track . . . the gravy, cranberry sauce, and mashed turnips/carrots are all done. I’ve delegated other sides and on Thanksgiving itself I only have to do the turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing.

I hope your Thanksgiving prep, travel, plans are going perfectly.

  1. Pie day here, too. I appreciate your pie inclusive approach, but I’m only doing two for 6 of us. Although there will be brownies on the side. Anyone getting their second choice this week goes to the head of the line for requests for Christmas.

    Happy pie making!

  2. Have a fun day! I’m only making chocolate cream and two more will come with guests. So excited to just putter around here today!

  3. I’m making 3 pies for 5 people today. 😉
(If I don’t make extra pies, what will I eat for breakfast on Friday????)

  4. Pie day here too! Only making two pies for 10 people, 4 of them being children. Pumpkin and cherry made the cut. Considered cranberry, but opted for cherry.

PSA for anyone making a cherry pie for Thanksgiving- DO NOT get creative and make a hand print turkey on the top crust unless you want it to look like the turkey has met a bloody demise ??

  5. It is very important to have choices when it comes to pie as well as to have enough pie so that some can be breakfast the day after Thanksgiving. I am glad you are making enough!

  6. Four pies sounds like a minimal amount for you Carole – the official Pie Queen!! Your choices sound wonderful. Since we are not hosting, I am opting to make/bake my pies tomorrow morning (I just finished mixing up the pie crust and it is in the frig chilling). I’m making apple (vegan) and pumpkin (not vegan). Mailing’s sister is also making an apple pie – most likely a caramel apple. I have mincemeat for a pie and love that…will most likely make that in a week or two. The only other thing I will do tomorrow is roast some veggies. Happy Thanksgiving!!
