Unraveled, August 13, 2025

I’m joining in with Kat and my fellow knitters this week to talk about knitting and reading . . .

I suppose to have something unraveled I’d have to actually have been knitting but my knitting mojo seems to have left. I did pick up this sock yesterday during a meeting and I’m hoping to be inspired to work on it more as we head into a week of camping on Sunday. The yarn is Vesper Sock yarn and it’s called Long Strange Trip which is weirdly appropriate for socks these days, amIright? I only have the foot left to go on the first sock, what are the odds I can finish the second next week?

I’ve read 3 books so far this month:

Speak to Me of Home by Jeanine Cummings
Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy
Maine Characters by Hannah Orenstein

I’ll share my full reviews when I do my monthly reading wrap up but you can always see my thoughts ahead of that if you check my GoodReads page.

The question now is, how many books will I read next week while we’re camping? I read 4 while we were in Maine but camping involves more socializing and more meal prepping so we shall see.

I guess the good news on both fronts is that I’ll never run out of something to knit OR something to read.

  1. What a long, strange trip indeed, Carole. I will certainly never run out of books to read or things to knit because, for various reasons, I have lost my mojo on all fronts. It is forcing me to look where I can get focused these days, but it’s a challenge. I think my anxiety and the news are dampening my focus. Your socks are fabulous! Almost to the finish line on that one. Keep up the good work.

  2. I really like Long Strange Trip, and as you said, it’s so appropriate! You’ve come so far and only have the foot left to go, so the sock (could possibly) be done before you know it. But knitting mojo is often hard to come by in the summer, so I guess it will be done when it’s done (and not a moment before).

  3. When Knitting and Life match… Long Strange Trip is absolutely appropriate! I will send you some extra knitting mojo to get that second sock spurred along! Have a fantastic time camping! XO

  4. Socializing and food prep . . . those two things – especially together – really do keep my knitting production down. (I’ve never been one to knit-while-socializing . . . ) The socks will be wonderful WHENEVER you complete them. (And I think the trip is, unfortunately, going to continue for a long time.) (Sigh.) XO

  5. Indeed it is and has been A Long Strange Trip. The sock looks fab Carole. I you finish it – great…if not, it’s not a race (as I continually say). Hope you and Dale have a fabulous camping week – enjoy!!

  6. Long Strange Trip seems perfectly appropriate for both the socks and life these days. I’m sure the socks will get done when they get done (and right now it seems like it will never be cold enough to need hand-knit socks, so I’m sure it’s not a rush). I hope whatever reading you get done on the camping trip is good reading — it’s all about quality over quantity!
