Unraveled, January 2026

I’m joining with Kat and friends today to share a knitting and reading update.

(cat included for scale. and also because I tried 3 times to take a photo without him on it and failed.)

My knitting time has been dedicated to Dale’s sweater, the Saddle Shoulder Men’s Pullover from Churchmouse Yarns. I started this last May, ignored it all summer, picked away at it during the fall, and have been working on it in earnest for the past couple of weeks. At this point the back is done and the front is 3/4 done. I’m sure the sleeves will be a slog but I am making progress.

Truth be told, the reason for the urgency is that I’ve committed to the MDK Bang Out A Sweater experience in February. I’ll be making the Waffle Pullover and I’ve actually got yarn to make this for me and also for Hannah. I’m not sure yet who will get it first.

As for reading, I plowed through 5 books in the first half of the month and now I have slowed down my pace as I’m reading Homeseeking by Karissa Chen. It’s lovely and I’ve been reading it in smaller doses to really absorb it and understand the history and setting that’s so key to the overall book.

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. Oh . . . that Saddle Shoulder Sweater. It IS a total slog, but it will be very nice when it’s all done and dusted and Dale is wearing it. Tell me . . . will you force yourself to finish Dale’s sweater before you start banging out your Waffle Pullover (or Hannah’s . . . )?

  2. Oh YAY!!! I think it will be delightful to bang out a sweater (or two!!) with you!! 🙂 (and Dale’s sweater + the cat = perfection! Or is that purr-fection!!) XO

  3. Oh, darn, Kat made the purr-fection joke before me! Dale’s sweater is looking good, and your cats are probably glad to hear they’ll have Waffle Sweater pieces to lie on in the future. You could probably use a sabbatical from work so you could do all the knitting!

  4. I’m also planning to join the MDK KAL. Currently swatching. Looking forward to the camaraderie!

  5. I’m so tempted to join in the Bang Out a Sweater fun, but I’d best not (too many other things going on). Meanwhile, I love Dale’s sweater and the Bang Out should motivate you to get that done. I am still plugging away on the Family Socks and reading “Invitation to a Banquet.”
