I have a feeling many of you are already watching and enjoying the Olympic games…

You may have heard that the female occupant of the White House has a documentary infomercial in theaters right now. I am not here to recommend that you go see that. Instead, I’m recommending that you watch Becoming, the 2020 documentary about Michelle Obama.
It’s got the same title as her memoir, which I read and enjoyed immensely, but it expands on that and offers some lovely insight into her childhood, her relationship with Barack Obama and her daughters, and her path since leaving the White House. It’s grounded and thoughtful, full of laughter and hope and change. It feels like spending time with someone who’s genuine about identity, purpose, and service, instead of selling you a brand. Ahem.
It’s also, despite being almost 6 years old, currently trending on Netflix and clocking in at #6 on the list of Top 10 Movies in the U.S. Today.
Almost as if it were a form of protest. Just saying.

There might be a group of us playing and replaying it over and over again. Just because…
I downloaded this and watched it on my flight home from VogueKnitting Live NYC on Sunday. It was an excellent choice, and I knit through the whole thing. I loved watching her interact with the young people who are now finding their way, and their voice. Powerful.
I don’t think I watched it in 2020, so I will have to now (maybe on repeat like Kat suggested).
I don’t think I was even aware of it in 2020, so it’s definitely a good time to watch it now!
What a great recommendation, Carole! I can’t wait to watch . . . and maybe more than once. XO
I have read and loved her books. I listened to her read the audiobook and she is fabulous. I haven’t seen this documentary but will watch it soon because I admire her.
