Selfie Sunday

November 20, 2016 By Carole

In keeping with the tradition of the last few years, on the Saturday after Thanksgiving we will be having a turkey dinner with our kids. We call this tradition Thanksmas because it falls in between the holidays. Sometimes the house is still decorated for Thanksgiving and sometimes the Christmas decorations are up and sometimes it’s a mix of the two.

Because it’s not actually Thanksgiving day, I can play with the menu a bit. One thing that’s non-negotiable, though, is turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy. And, to keep the actual day as easy and stress free as possible, I make the gravy in advance. So, yesterday, I roasted turkey wings in the oven and then simmered them on the stove to make turkey stock. My house smelled amazing and now I have beautiful, rich stock ready for homemade gravy. If you want to try this yourself, here’s a link to the way I do it.

Anyway. I thought of you all and took this selfie while I was working on those wings.

Too bad we don’t have scratch and sniff computer screens.

Selfie Sunday

November 13, 2016 By Carole

carole-election-day

I took this selfie on the morning of election day. I was feeling optimistic and hopeful and ready to take on the world on behalf of women everywhere.

And we all know what happened next.

It’s been a few days and I’m still not feeling optimistic or hopeful about a Trump presidency.  And I am dismayed and disappointed in those who are telling the Clinton supporters to “get over it, already” because I believe I have the right to feel how I feel for as long as I need to feel it.

I am, though, a hopeful person. And because of that, I am feeling buoyed by the good things I am seeing people do. People who are donating more to Planned Parenthood and the ACLU. People who are looking for ways to become active in their communities, to speak up if they see someone being treated unfairly, to volunteer and help in areas of immigration and ESL, food insecurity and more. Personally, I think it’s time for me to step up in my own community and get involved with our Democratic Town Community. To join the League of Women Voters and to begin donating again to the National Organization for Women. Because, really, if you aren’t part of the solution then you are part of the problem.

I am woman. Hear me roar.

Selfie Sunday

November 6, 2016 By Carole

I think, although I may change my mind next week, that Sundays shall be for selfies. We all take ’em, right? And sometimes they are good and sometimes they are goofy and sometimes they are just horrible and are immediately deleted.

This one, well, this one is okay. It’s grainy, as most of my selfies seem to be, and it’s backlit, but I like the smirk. And that blouse is new and has quickly become one of my favorites.

Sunday Selfies. I’m sure it’s a trend that will be sweeping the nation in no time.

Sundays Are For Selfies

November 1, 2015 By Carole

I’m not big on self portraits. I’m very critical of the way I look and I’m much more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it. But, this essay come to mind and I think – get in the picture, just get in the damn picture. So, in the spirit of that, and because I need something to fill up the blog for the month of November, on Sundays I will be posting selfies.

First up:

Of course, I’m barely in that one and it doesn’t take any guts to post it. But the leaves are falling and I’m enjoying the scenery and I love those cowboy booties. It’s a good slice of my life in October photo.

Next up:

spinning shoes selfie for carole knits

More shoes? Yes. But these are my spinning shoes and I went to spin class on Saturday morning for the first time in, oh, forever. Definitely photo worthy because it took guts to go back. And today my ass is sore (I forgot to wear the padded bike shorts, duh) and my legs are tired but my spirit feels good. So good.

And finally, the one that actually takes a bit of courage to share:

grieving selfie for carole knits

Hardly any make up. Red cheeks and sad eyes. I had  been crying and grieving about Bob when I took this one. It’s not flattering but it acknowledges and captures the way I was feeling, the way I still feel underneath even though it doesn’t show in such an obvious way – it’s always there. You know what I mean.

3 selfies, 3 moods, all me.
