Wednesdays Are For Knitting: Geek Socks

February 5, 2020 By Carole

I have a pair of finished socks to show you today  . . . the first pair of socks I’ve finished since July 2019. Remember how I used to knit a pair of socks/month? Yeah. That doesn’t happen anymore. So, a finished pair of socks calls for a little party!

The pattern is geek socks and the yarn is Knitterly Things Vesper Sock Yarn in the color Falling Water and I knit them for Jessica.

Super fun to knit and, despite how long it took me to finish them, relatively fast, too.

I knit my first ever after thought heel for these socks and, while I can’t say I enjoyed it (picking up those stitches on teeny tiny needles ? not fun) I do really like the way it maintains the striping. I don’t have close ups of it for you, though, because when I gave these to Jessica she immediately put them on and that was that. No more photos.

It’s all good, though, because knitting socks that are instantly loved brings me a lot of joy.

Wednesdays Are For Knitting: Disco Superfly Socks

July 31, 2019 By Carole

I finally finished my current sock project, the Disco Superfly Socks.

I’ve been working on these since March and I am so glad to be done with them. I mean, I love them – just look at those stripes! And there’s glitter, too, which I failed to capture in these photos.

Matching a 12 color stripe repeat? Not for the faint of heart but I pulled it off. Mostly because no one does stripes like my pal Julia of Knitterly Things.

These will now go into the drawer and at some point (hopefully many, many weeks from now) I will pull them out and put them on and remember finishing them at the campground last weekend.

Happy memories all ’round.

Wednesdays Are For Knitting: Funfetti Socks

March 6, 2019 By Carole

Jo-Ann and I took the train to New York City and that made for some really great knitting time. I practically finished my socks on the train but ultimately (deliberately) decided to hold off so that I could say I finished them in New York City.

Because, really, how often will I have the opportunity for a hand knit photo shoot 30 stories up?

I’ve been knitting these socks since . . . forever, I think. 2 X 2 ribbing is great for comfort but for knitting it makes for a real slog.

I call them my funfetti socks because they remind me of funfetti cupcakes. I got the yarn from Cara of January One but I don’t remember what it’s called or who dyed it. I do love all those colors, though!

Kinda like the lights of Times Square, now that I think about it.

Finishing socks on a trip is a very good thing.

Wednesdays Are For Knitting (sometimes): Hannah’s Birthday Socks

September 26, 2018 By Carole

I made my kid some socks for her birthday. And then I gave them to her without taking photos first. #badblogger

Eventually, I got them back from her (I had to threaten her with never knitting her another pair of socks if she didn’t bring them back) and now I’m sharing them with you. #thankgoodnessforblogfodder

Perfect stripes in perfect fall colors. My friend Julia over there at Knitterly Things dyes some amazing sock yarn. #youshouldgetsome

The pattern is my plain old sock with a picot edge. It works and it’s pretty and I honestly never get tired of it.

I always say that hand knit socks are like a hug for your feet and I’m glad Hannah will have a little hug from her mama whenever she wears these.

Wednesdays Are For Knitting: Jessica’s Socks

April 25, 2018 By Carole

We interrupt this Nashville travelogue to bring you breaking and exciting news . . . I finished a pair of socks!

They took two years and one week. Or something along those lines because they basically sat in a bag for two years with one sock finished and one just started. Once I set my mind to getting them done it took less than a week.

The pattern is Katniss and it’s a lovely design, I love the way those cables pop.

I’m just so happy that they are done and I am glad and I will be giving them to Jessica tonight.
