Think Write Thursday

July 20, 2017 By Carole

The Think Write Thursday topic for July 20, 2017 is to tell us what you do to beat the heat! We’re deep into summer here and some of those love the heat and some of us hate it but either way we all have to cope with it. What do you do that works for you? Share you tips, stories and more on coping with summer heat!

Some of us (me, for instance) love the summer. And some of us (I’m looking at you, Ms. Etherknitter) don’t. But I’m pretty sure that none of us love the super high heat and the uncomfortable humidity. That’s what we’ve been having. In other words, as Becky put it, it’s hotter than a firecracker out there! So what do I do when it’s hot, hot, hot? I stay inside. That’s right. Me, the one who love outdoors, stays inside because everywhere I go (my car, my office at the library, my office at the COA, and my house) has air conditioning. I still have to go outside when I move between those places but I take my time and go slow and it’s not so bad. In fact, the AC at the library was working overtime the other day and the air outside felt pretty good. Almost like coming in and sitting by the woodstove on a January day.

And that image is all I need to remind me that this, too, shall pass. It will become cold again and I won’t like it one bit. So for now I will delight in the modern wonder of air conditioning. I will swim in cool water when I get the opportunity. I will drink cold things and eat ice cream and not turn on my oven unless absolutely necessary  – which, by the way, it will be since I’m bringing a blueberry pie to dinner at a friend’s house this evening. I will revel in the heat because everything – even high humidity – is temporary.

Think Write Thursday

July 13, 2017 By Carole

The Think Write Thursday topic is to write about 3 good things that happened this week.

  1. We picked our first summer squash of the season. I steamed it last night and served it with some grilled chicken and it was delicious and fresh and perfect.
  2. I attended a work meeting that included a very frank, open and honest discussion about management styles, rumors and gossip, and ways to build trust. I didn’t expect this discussion to happen but it resulted in some great team building among my peers and I’m grateful for the opportunity to see some of them in a whole new light.
  3. I finished #The100DayProject! Yes, indeed, I took one hundred one second videos from April 3rd through July 12th. It was fun and I definitely learned a lot about how long a second actually is and how to (slightly) improve my video taking skills. There are quite a few things I’d do over with those videos given the chance but it’s still a pretty nifty look back on the last 100 days. I haven’t decided yet whether I will continue doing this but I just might. I also haven’t figured out a way to share it here because the video exceeds the size of a file I can upload. Damn. You can see it on instagram, though, if you’re so inclined.

What good things happened for you this week? If you wrote a post for today’s topic please include your link below so that we can all come and read it. And if you’d like to receive the Think Write Thursday topic in your inbox each week (usually by Monday afternoon) then click here to sign up.

Think Write Thursday

July 6, 2017 By Carole

The Think Write Thursday topic for today is to write a post called Hello, July.

Hello, July! I’m happy to see you as you usher in the height of summer. You start off with a holiday, which I appreciate very much, and your long hot days are right up my alley. I love that July means Dale doesn’t have to get up early in the morning to go to work. I love that we have an extra weekday together to head to the beach or a museum. I love the blue July sky and, while I don’t love the humidity that often comes along right now, I sure prefer it over cold and ice. And speaking of cold, what’s better than a cold beer on a hot July afternoon? Of, for that matter, an icy martini on a sultry July night? It’s all good, I’m telling you.

Well. There is one teensy problem with July. It’s goes by tooooooo fast. So, slow down. Please? I want your long lovely days to last and last and last.

Think Write Thursday

June 29, 2017 By Carole

The Think Write Thursday topic this week is to write about what you thought you were going to be when you grew up and how that compares to what you actually are.

Well.  For my personal life, I thought I’d be a wife and a mother and I am. I have a funny story that goes back to my childhood and this seems like an appropriate time to share it. I always said, when anyone asked, that I was going to grow up and marry a Swede and have four children. And then I married Hannah’s dad, who is German and English and I thought, well, so much for that childhood prediction. Fast forward 8 years and I was divorced and marrying a Swede with three children. Add Hannah to that mix and wa-la, I wound up married to a Swede and I have four children. Maybe it didn’t happen the way I thought it would when I was 8 but it still happened. Ha!

For my professional life, when I was really little I thought I’d be a teacher. And then I decided I wanted to be a librarian. I went through a phase in junior high school where I wanted to be a lawyer. And I briefly considered being a social worker when I was in high school. But despite all of those considerations I always came back to wanting to be a librarian. When I truly contemplate all of the things I do as a library director and council on aging director, I kind of am also a social worker. And there are even things I do that are vaguely lawyerly. I guess that’s just an elaborate way to say that I managed to work in all of my career interests even though I narrowed things down to being a librarian. And I wouldn’t change a bit of it.

How about you? What did you think you were going to be when you grew up? If you wrote a post for today please share it below! If you want to subscribe to the Think Write Thursday weekly email (it’s the only way to get the weekly prompt) please click here.

Think Write Thursday

June 22, 2017 By Carole

The Think Write Thursday topic for this week is to write about your three favorite things to wear.

My three favorite things to wear varies with the season, as I’m sure yours do, too. For today I’m going to share my three favorite things to wear right now.

My Old Navy boyfriend jeans. They are faded to perfection, cropped and baggy and comfortable. I would wear them every day if I could!

My Croc flip flops. I know, it’s another picture of my feet. Weird, right? I mean, I could get some interesting readers if I keep this up. Anyway, those flip flops were recommended by my podiatrist when I first had plantar fasciitis and they saved me. They have good arch support and they go with everything and they are lightweight and I wear them all.summer.long.

LipSense! I had to include it because I wear it every day and it has changed the way I look at myself. Whether I’m going bold and bright or subtle and neutral, a little lip color has made a big difference in how I look.

What are your three favorite things to wear? If you wrote a post for today please share it below! If you want to subscribe to the Think Write Thursday weekly email (it’s the only way to get the weekly prompt) please click here.
