Tuesday Recs: The Winter Olympics

I have a feeling many of you are already watching and enjoying the Olympic games but I’m here to recommend them anyway.

They are highly entertaining and addictive. I am totally entranced by the mixed doubles curling competition. I am sad for Lindsay Vonn. I am all in for the U.S. figure skating team. And it’s all great for pairing with knitting.

At a time when it can feel sort of icky to be American, our athletes deserve our support and pride. When they compete, whether they win or lose, they are there for all of us. They don’t represent our government or people in power. They represent you and I. The amateur curlers, skiers and skaters. The high school athletes who weren’t good enough to compete but still had a blast playing sports. The uncoordinated ones who sat on the sidelines and cheered for their friends.

So go forth and watch the winter Olympics over the next couple of weeks. Be inspired. And be proud of our athletes.

  1. We watched the mixed doubles curling, too! I love it! Kind of makes me want to see if there’s anywhere to play near us!

  2. Yes!! The Olympics are perfect for knitting. I haven’t watched any of the curling, but I have to say that my subscription to Peacock is worth every penny right now… I love being able to choose what to watch (and when) by sport!

  3. I may need a Peacock subscription as I haven’t watched any of the Olympics! I did find my favorite on youtube, though – cat curling. I know it’s AI but seeing cats riding the curling stones is almost as entertaining as cats riding roombas.

  4. My big Olympics rec . . . get a Peacock subscription (just for the Olympics). It makes watching the Olympics so much nicer. 🙂 We watch a LOT of curling here (as you might guess . . . ), but we enjoy sampling all the sports. (Tom loves speed skating; I love ice dancing and anything with a snowboard.)
