Wednesdays Are For Knitting: Scoreboard KAL Cowl

November 4, 2015 By Carole

If you’re not a knitter the title of this post may be confusing. KAL? Cowl? Let me clarify: today I am talking about one of my current knitting projects, the Scoreboard Cowl. It’s a long tubular scarf and it’s a knit-a-long (aka KAL) that will last for the entire Patriots football season.

The idea is pretty simple – pick two colors to represent your favorite football team and then knit the points as they are scored in each game. I chose blue for the Pats points and red for their opponents each week. The yarn is Knit Picks Swish DK.

As you can see, the Pats are doing rather well. (If you’re a hater keep your thoughts to yourownself please.) I’m starting to be concerned about having enough of the blue but that’s an awesome problem to have, honestly.

I was late to the party on this one so I had a fair amount of catching up to do. I started on a bye week but it still took me until last Sunday to finally be current. And now I’m about to fall behind again since I will be out of town this week. It’s okay, though, it’s good mindless knitting and that might be just what I need when I return from my upcoming adventures.

More on that tomorrow.

In the meantime, tell me, what are you knitting these days?

That is a cool idea. Reminds me of a shorter term Margene sky scarf!

That may be one long cowl by the end of the season! It looks great and I hope you have some low-scoring games (with the Pats still the winners).

I’ve been following Lydia and Vicki – who are also having seasons with lots of points. That looks like a great way to stay engaged with the season, not that you need any help there! Go Pats!!

What a great way to knit through the football season! (Meanwhile, I’m still working on you-know-what for you-know-who. Moving along well, though. Just starting the final chart.)

I like the way it’s turning out, and you picked lovely shades of the colors.

I thought about participating, but never got my act together. Maybe next year … 🙂

Can’t wait to see that modeled! 🙂 Go Pats!

It’s not a Scoreboard Cowl, that’s for sure (I look bad in orange). I am finishing a cardigan from Knit One Crochet Two Paintbox yarn that has been marinating in my stash for at least ten years! It’s beautiful wool yarn and I have happy memories of buying it from a surprise store in a small town during a trip to a friend’s mountain cottage!

I definitely was asleep at the switch on this one! We are BIG Patriots’ fans in this family – what a fun knit to work on while cheering for our boys! I definitely hope you run out of blue, Carole…stock up because I’m predicting you’ll need it! 🙂

of my many ongoing projects this is one, though I am woefully behind. Mine is in Steelers colors, in Knit picks Palette, Steelers are yellow, opponents are black, but it is great car knitting

    Your cowl looks GREAT!

I’m a week behind on my Scoreboard Cowl (our first loss… and I’m in no hurry to re-live that). I’m about 3/4 through a pair of mittens, and all caught up on the new Marching Through Time mystery KAL as of yesterday.

The cowl seems to be quite popular and seeing all the team colors is entertaining, but football is not my cuppa. I’m planning to cast on for the Marching Though Time KAL and that, along with my sweater, should keep me plenty busy.

Cool idea (the football KAL.) What I’m working on now? The Carole socks, of course, as always!

I am knitting one of those for the Oregon Ducks football team. I think it was a mistake. I am a few games behind, less than half the season done, and it is already 6 feet long. I am going to have a VERY long scarf!

You know those haters have to hate…LOL. That could potentially be one very long scarf!

What a great idea!!! I think you better stock up on more of that blue….

What a neat idea for a cowl 🙂 I’m working on 2 sweaters for myself plus lots of hats and mittens for Christmas gifts.

Since then I have kept Mama Cass fed and alive and have baked many loaves of bread. This one might be my best one yet.
