Right Now

There’s a few things going on around here, seems like a good time for a right now post. Here’s what’s happening – right now –

bourbon and cider for carole knits

Drinking: Wine, of course. And martinis, too. But on Halloween I made this pretty bourbon and apple cider cocktail. It was deeeelish.

Knitting: Socks. I went to a new yarn shop the other day to get yarn (duh) for the March Through Time knit-along and while I was there I picked up a skein of sock yarn. Now. I have no business buying sock yarn. And yet I did. And I cast on as soon as I got home. Maybe I’m uninspired by sock knitting because I’m uninspired by all of my sock yarn. That would be a real shame since I have a pretty amazing collection of sock yarn.

Reading: The Secret Chord by Geraldine Brooks. She’s a brilliant writer but I’m not so sure about the subject this time. I’m giving it another 50 pages or so before I decide.

Planning: All of the places we’re going to eat while in Las Vegas. I told you about Las Vegas, right? Doreen and Jo-Ann and I leave tomorrow for our combined 50th birthday trip. Woo hoo!

Remembering: How in love I was with Donny Osmond. I hope when I see his show (yes, we’re going to see Donny & Marie in Vegas) that he’s as dreamy as I thought he was when I was 7. I was going to grow up and marry him, you know.

Contemplating: Whether to bring the big camera on my trip. I’m thinking no on this and just the iPhone will do.

Writing: Blog posts through next Wednesday. I’ve decided to get them all done so I don’t have to try and blog from Vegas. It’s a bit of work on this end but I think it will be worth it for the confidence in knowing I won’t miss a day of NaBloPoMo.

Enjoying: Mystery Show, a podcast from Gimlet Media. Starlee Kine is the host and she solves a different mystery in each episode. So entertaining and so so good. There are only 6 episodes in season 1, give it a listen.

Shopping: thredUP, an online consignment store with excellent quality merchandise and fantastic prices. AND you never have to go to the store. That’s a win in my book. Want to get $20 off your first order and earn me $20, too? Follow this link and check it out. (I am not being compensated by thredUP for posting this, it’s my own individual recommendation.)

Scurrying: To get all my work done before vacation. Bills have to be processed, deposits have to be made, schedules have to be completed, reports have to be mailed. Ahhh, the life of a public servant.

That’s my world these days. Hope your world is good.

  1. It’s a well established fact that fresh supplies can inspire an artist like no other source. I learned this with my new box of crayons at about age 7.

    Have fun in Vegas!

  2. No . . . I was going to marry Donny. (Also — I saw him in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and he was GREAT. Even a bit dreamy. Although that was about 15 years ago now . . . ) I always hate getting ready for a vacation — although it’s always very satisfying and worth-it, once you’re sitting on that plane and ready to go. And thanks for the podcast recommendation. 🙂

  3. Travel light. I spent years lugging heavy equipment on my travels. I love a pocket camera.
    Have a great time!
So disappointed to see the reviews on Brooks newest. Oh well.

  4. Happy Almost Vacation! I’m looking forward to hearing all about your great trip (including how Donny and Marie have held up). I was going to marry Davy Jones from the Monkees, so no competition there. Mystery Show sounds right up my alley (plus Starlee Kine!) so I’m off to download the first season. Thanks!

  5. Go light and use your iPhone. It will be all you need to post picture to Instagram so I can be SO envious you’re nearby and having a great time! Thank you for the Mystery Show recommendation and I’m going to check out thredUP, too.

  6. OK, the Donny Osmond marriage thing made me laugh out loud!

That podcast sounds pretty interesting, I may have to check it out.

I hope you have a good time in Las Vegas, even though technically you won’t be able to tell us about it … right? 😉

  7. I think there must be a support group for those of us who buy unnecessary sock yarn. I can’t resist the pull either, regardless of the huge drawer I already have. I say don’t bring the big camera. iPhone will be fine. I was wondering about ThredUp. I will have to check them out over the weekend. Have a GREAT time in Vegas ladies!

  8. Have a BLAST!! Donny & Marie were in Vegas when Sharon & I went, but we didn’t see them. I had a SUPER crush on Donny, too. I only used my camera when we got out of town — into the desert, at the Hoover Dam; no way I was hauling that up & down the strip, into casinos, etc.

  9. Girlfriend trip! For what it’s worth, I think your decision to leave the big camera behind is a good one. You’ll be snapping photos of your friends as opposed to artsy moody stuff. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it. Have a great trip!

  10. Have a great time in Vegas. My DH and I had a wonderful meal at Emeril’s in the Bellagio.
Donny Osmond has really aged well. I was a fan as a kid and my mom bought me tickets when he was in Joseph back in the 90s. So good.
I’m three episodes into the Mystery Show and it’s fun. I loved the Belt Buckle one.

  11. Sounds like a great way to celebrate a big birthday! Remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas! 🙂
Make this the time of your life – you’ll never have another big 50 so do it up in grand style!
You get the blogging award of the century – posts through next Wednesday…now that’s commitment and dedication! Have fun and please take lots and lots of pictures!

  12. I hope you are having a fabulous time in Las Vegas…but I must say, I’m disappointed you won’t be blogging real time while you’re there. (and I hope you went with your gut and left the big camera at home – not that I’ve been to LV, but when I do go, it’s gonna be iPhone all the way!) Enjoy a fun martini (or two) for me (but you’re on your own for gambling. I suck at games).
