April Camping at the Cape Cod Canal

We had a great few days of camping at Bourne Scenic Park in the site we will have for Labor Day through the end of October later this year. We chose this deliberately, both to work out the kinks of the site and to also learn all the systems of our new camper. Her name, for those of you who have asked, is Ethel.

She gets along really well with Maude, which is what we have named Dale’s truck. (As an aside, I’m not sure how this naming of vehicles started for us but it’s something we do now and we’re rather committed to it.) Ethel and Maude are two old gal pals who like to sit around the campsite, side eyeing other set ups and judging how people park their campers.

The weather fluctuated from chilly and damp to warm and sunny and we managed to fit a lot into our time.

We had cocktails and snacks on our first night. The daffodils are from my garden at home. The napkins pretty much say it all.

And lunch on our tailgate one afternoon. This is actually a table that drops down from the side of the camper and there’s a window above it that opens into the camper. Very fun and perhaps the thing that initially made us take a second look at this camper back in February at the camping show.

We played Phase 10. Dale won. Whatever.

We had cocktails and a campfire in the late afternoon.

The cats adapted pretty quickly.

They enjoyed the couch.

And looking out the window.

And trapping me on the couch. I did not complain, it was a great excuse to sit and read.

I made a potholder.

And soaked in every moment of our view of the bridge.

We have several camping trips planned for the next few months, and I sure don’t want to wish away the summer, but I am also really glad to know we will be back in this spot for the fall camping season.

  1. Oh Carole! What a lovely time. So glad you had a great first camping trip with Ethel! Thanks for all the pics.

  2. I love that you have older-lady names for the truck and the camper! Ethel looks very comfy, and with that fold-out table and window, you could turn her into a food truck! 😉

  3. I’m glad that Ethel and Maude did so well on their first outing together! I remember when we took the RV trip, we always judged how well (or not) other people had parked their campers. This new camper looks so roomy and I’m glad to see your camping-appropriate potholder making. You’ve got lots of camper fun to look forward to!

  4. Ethel and Maude, I love it!!! I hope you have many more happy weekends to look forward to, Carole. It looks like you made a good decision to get Ethel.

  5. Ethel and Maude. Oh, my goodness, that’s a hoot. It looks like a very successful “maiden” voyage for your two Old Maids. (And I don’t mean you and Dale. . . ) (Just wanted to clarify.) Your camper looks fabulous — and won’t you have some FUN this summer! XO

  6. I’m glad Ethel and Maude have decided to be chums. Ethel looks very cozy and convenient. I wish you many happy camping trips with her. The view of the bridge is beautiful.

  7. How wonderful. Your camper looks so inviting!! I’m looking forward to hearing about your upcoming trips.
