Wednesdays Are For Knitting: Nightshift

Hold on to your knitting needles, friends, because I finally took photos of my finished Nightshift and today I’m sharing them with you.

You may recall that I started this project last April. And I knit and knit and then I frogged quite a lot.

I continued knitting over the summer and into the fall. I finally finished it in November but I didn’t block it until much later.

Yesterday she had her photoshoot.

The yarn is Malabrigo Rios and I used a whole bunch of colors: Frank Ochre, Illusion, Quequay, Cloud Sunshine, Glitter, Sabiduria, Playa, Lotus, Pocion, Reflecting Pool, and Living Coral. I wasn’t sure at first about all of those color changes but I actually really love it.

I knit an extra repeat (or maybe 2? I can’t recall) and it’s big. Like, really big. In some ways that makes it more wearable because it’s shaped more like a traditional shawl. Honestly, though, I’m not sure how much I’ll actually wear this. Time will tell.

For the moment, it’s across the back of the couch in our little den. It might be more useful as a lap robe!

Either way, I’m glad it’s done, I’m glad it’s blocked, I’m glad it’s photographed, and I’m glad to share it with you!

  1. Wearability is one of the concerns that has kept me from making one of these. But, gosh this is beautiful! So, who knows?

  2. The colors you chose are wonderful and your Nightshift looks great! I thought I saw it on the back of the couch during our Zoom book discussion. Maybe you’ll end up wearing it on cool nights out on the porch? It’s lovely no matter how it’s used!

  3. I didn’t like mine when it was finished. In fact, I planned to give it away. Then one chilly day I put it on and now I love it and wear it every time I’m cold! I find it very wearable. Yours is lovely, Carole. Lots of great colors.

  4. LOVE!! Mine sits in the living room as well (it is a chilly room) and I used it so much this winter. I love your colors… the changes are just so fun!

  5. Beautiful colors and color changes! And so warm and squishy in Rios. I always thought the shape of Nightshift was awkward–but I love my Shift cowl. Hope yours gets lots of use being worn or on the couch, because it really is lovely.

  6. Beautiful Shawl. I love your color combinations. I first saw this shawl when Kym made hers.

Last time I was in Black Mountain, NC, I purchased spincyle yarns to make Andrea’s Shift cowl. You and Kym have inspired me to try one of her patterns. I also have The Weekender in my queue.

  7. Stunning work Carole! Now you know why Dale put the patio furniture out yesterday! Your color choices are beautiful. I finished The Shift cowl and just love it and wear as often as I can.

  8. I’d forgotten about this but I’m so happy to see if finished because it is BEAUTIFUL! I love the colors and it looks cozy and warm, perfect for your lap or shoulders! So nice, Carole!

  9. It’s beautiful Carole! Mine is in the closet – undone and potentially a rip. I just don’t see myself wearing that shape (after the summer MKAL this year…rrrrrrrrrrip) so I’m hesitant to put the time in to finish it. But…what else to do with that yarn?

  10. This a glorious, colorful, joyful looking shawl, Carole! I think the colors are wonderful together. I have a shawl that I never wear unless it is on the back of the couch in the winter, and then I make good use of it. I hope you enjoy it when it gets cold again. (But not anytime soon, please.)

  11. oooohhhh, AWESOME! I love mine (even though I did not wear it once this year – because I did not have a place to wear it!)

  12. Beautiful colors! I have yarn put aside for the this. Some day I’ll get around to making it. Other things just keep jumping to the top of the line.

  13. (I can’t believe I missed this post yesterday. . . ) It is STUPENDOUS, Carole! Just beautiful. I still say that my Night Shift is my favorite thing I ever knit . . . but I never wear mine. (The shape is just kinda awkward.) But I use it all the time as a “lap blanket” — and especially when I’m out on the patio and it’s chilly. And I leave it hanging on the back of my desk chair so I can see it and smile every day. I bet you’ll enjoy yours ALL the time! XO
