Three On Thursday

Let’s do a random catch up on my week today.

  1. Re-entry has been uneventful. Most of the heavy lifting for the new fiscal year was done before I went on vacation, submitting prior year bills and entering new payroll calculations (although I did mess that up a bit and the Payroll Coordinator fixed it for me, bless her). I’m very fortunate to have a great staff at the library right now and, while I’d rather never work, I’m grateful that I love my job and the people there.
  2. I found a new-to-me local farm and I’ve stopped there twice this week. I got their own summer squash on Monday and yesterday I got cucumbers and corn on the cob, also their own, and a tomato that was from New Jersey. Everything was fresh and delicious, the prices are great, and it’s self serve so I don’t have to talk to anyone. I love that sort of shopping experience!
  3. I didn’t knit a single stitch on vacation (I did finish 4 books, though) and last night I finally picked up my current sock in progress. I worked on it while we watched a couple of episodes of The Gilded Age. We’re really enjoying Season 3, by the way. I find that I am needing glasses to see up close these days (boo!) and it’s especially true in low light but those same glasses make everything else fuzzy when I look up so it’s a constant up and down of the glasses on my head. It’s as fun as it sounds.

  1. Finding a farm stand sounds perfect! We have Farm Markets all over during the week but prices have been… notable… this year. Sticker-shock kind of notable. Oy. But I am really glad that re-entry has been so easy! I am enjoying The Gilded Age this year as well!

  2. Ah, Farmers’ Markets – love them, but around here prices are typically higher. I live in a vacuum at times and had not heard of The Gilded Age, but I will see if Fletch and I can watch together – thanks! Having a job you love and people you really like with whom to work is a real blessing. Glad your re-entry has been gentle.

  3. I wish I had a produce stand close by. Actually fresh veggies are so good! OK, Carole, time for bifocals when you get tired of being a bobble head. You can get the top totally clear, and the bottom prescription for reading. After my cataract surgery, I got trifocals so I wouldn’t have to take my glasses off until I wanted to take them off. Bottom for reading, middle for computer, top clear for distance. Since I have worn glasses all my life, I find I never take them off since it’s very convenient not to have to bother with keeping up with reading glasses. Glad your re-entry has been smooth. I am waiting to re-subscribe to Max when all episodes are available in a month, but it is definitely on my radar. I love good period pieces.

  4. As much as I complain about having to blanch and freeze peas and beans, I am (mostly) glad that John grows stuff in the garden. Dinner tonight will be summer squash and beans but no tomatoes yet. I bought corn last week and was a bit surprised to find that it was $1.50/ear. Not even any tariffs since it was grown two miles away!

I’m with Becky; it’s time for bifocals. I have progressive lenses and put them on in the morning and take them off at night. They are frameless and lightweight lenses so sometimes I forget that I’m even wearing them. Far better than head bobbing and squinting!

  5. I too had to resort to bifocals for closeup stuff, with clear on top so I didn’t have a lot of neck action when glancing up at the tv. Progressive lenses gave me motion sickness so I had to go the old fashioned route of regular bifocals. They work great and now I’ve turned into my nana!!……who was raised in Massachusetts, before migrating to California in adulthood.

  6. How many pairs of glasses in various configurations do I have for various tasks? Let me count the ways… Haha. Seriously, though, my regular glasses are progressives but it was a literal pain in the neck working at a computer (which might not be such a pain if my monitor was raised… but it’s not), so I have computer glasses that I keep at work & at home, along with a pair that I got for more mid-range work — I can’t see well at a distance, but they’re perfect for knitting & TV. I’d never have this many if it weren’t for Zenni!

  7. Loving season 3 as well! I did the off and on and over the top for a long time…progressives for the win here. Glad you’re just starting with this though!

  8. How nice it must be to have a farm stand close by! We have quite a few farmers markets near us, but they all involve dealing with other people. Hope all that fresh produce was delicious! Molly and I have been enjoying The Gilded Age as well.

  9. I’m so glad that your work re-entry was not terrible — and the farm stand sounds perfect! The glasses, though. Ugh. (I thought you already had progressive lenses??? I must have mixed you up with someone else!) For years (YEARS!) I wore my contacts + cheaters, and I was constantly moving my glasses on and off, on and off. The silver lining of my corneal ulcer nightmare last year was finally ditching my contacts (which was so hard after FIFTY years of contacts!) for progressive lenses. Life is so much easier now. Highly recommend! XO
