Three On Thursday

Some random thoughts for you this week . . .

  1. We have a freeze warning for overnight tonight. I think it should be okay and the dahlias and zinnias will make it through but I’ll be doing a LOT of cutting this morning just in case. It’s been an amazing season for my flowers and, while I’m not ready for it to end, it’s inevitable at this point. I’m still just hoping for a little bit longer, though.
  2. I’ve been listening to the new Taylor Swift album, The Life of a Showgirl on repeat since it was released last Friday. I’m enjoying the hell out of it and it’s a “no skip” listen for me. My favorite song is Father Figure but I also really like Honey, Eldest Daughter, The Fate of Ophelia, and The Life of a Showgirl.
  3. This week is Banned Books Week. I know I’m preaching to the choir when I say that banning books is a threat to libraries and our freedom to read. The list of books that are challenged grows every year and it’s disheartening to hear about librarians being harassed and threatened and even fired because of the books on the shelves. Reading gives us all a chance to learn about different lives, ideas, and values. It opens the world to us right from where we are and it’s vital that our freedom to read is protected.

And that’s all I have for you today. I’ll be heading to the camper later for the long weekend. It’s supposed to be pretty chilly and rain is in the forecast for Sunday and Monday. I’ll be back here on Tuesday with stories of our weekend adventures.

  1. You really sum up the “threats” from reading broadly and allowing others to too. I’ll never understand the thinking that reading fairytales to toddlers is safe but allowing teens with actual skills of discernment to read about people who are different is threatening.

Hope your chilly, rainy weekend is the cozy kind!

  2. I brought all of my outdoor plants inside a day or so ago so I wouldn’t have to rush before the frost. I was happy to find places for all of them! I’m glad to hear that you’re enjoying the latest TS album. I’ve read some less than favorable reviews, but haven’t listened myself. And a resounding yes to supporting libraries, librarians, and the ability to read whatever we want to!

  3. Seeing the dahlias go will be sad, but what a run you’ve had, Carole! I hope you still see some blooms for a while. Yes, you are preaching to the choir about book banning, but it is an excellent sermon. I will never understand why people are afraid of books

  4. Are you going to reveal which was the lie from last week’s Three on Thursday? Unless I missed it…

  5. Have a fabulous LONG weekend of camping (envious – yes! I am!!). I was remembering how one of my favorite camping times was when we were in Rhinebeck and Woodstock about a week before NYSW. It was great! You’ve had an excellent run with your flowers this year – amazing even. I’m not a TS fan, so I have not listened. Finally, banned books? Don’t get me started….

  6. I’m still in denial about the summer-ish season ending–it’s been perfection forthe last few weeks. Enjoy your camper even if it rains, it sounds cozy.

  7. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that all your flowers survive any frost! I’m also enjoying the new album (“The Fate of Ophelia” has been stuck in my head for days) thanks to my resident Swiftie. As for book bans, they’re horrible — but nothing inspires me to want to read something more than someone telling me I can’t.

Have a cozy weekend in the camper!

  8. I hope you’re having a GRAND time at the camper, Carole! It’s so nice to just get away for awhile!
    XO
